If I remember correctly, liability and collision is covered through the tow vehicle, so it's just comprehensive on the 5th wheel. We had a situation where we had rats chew through some wires in the fiver and they were very easy to work with, and got fixed quick.Re: where to go in socal anon125 wrote: thanks all Has the Lake Cachuma rowdyness been solved now. it was uncontrolled when we visited some time ago We've been going there off and on since 2010 or 2011 and haven't had any issues.Re: where to go in socalLake Cachuma near Solvang is one of our favorite spots. We don't feel like we're "camping" in a concrete parking lot, and many of the RV sites are very spacious.Re: Too cold????We had that issue with our unit a couple of years ago... turned out to be rats had chewed through some of the wiring... hopefully it's not that for you... was not pleasant. We got it fixed at a local RV shop and insurance covered it save for the deductible.Re: MiceBest things we have found, is... real peppermint scent (not the cheap fake stuff for indoor smell-good purpose) in the possible openings, mouse traps with peanut butter and cheese on top, and sealing obvious openings in the frame with strong sealant and/or wire mesh - but be prudent about this, they can squeeze into through very small openings. And always keep checking once a week... it's a constant battle of wits and cunning if you're in the country.Re: Why doesn't the math work? wfoote wrote: caberto wrote: The only legal weight restriction I've seen, heard, or read of in official guides, is the lesser of either the actual rear axle rating or the tires, which is usually the tires, as most 3/4 ton and 1 ton rear truck axles have at least a 10.5K weight rating. "Legal" weight restrictions are not the only thing to worry about. If you get in an accident with a death, and some eager beaver prosecutor finds your numbers are over specs, you may be facing high level felony criminal charges( read as manslaugher or murder). Admittedly, I am looking at this with a defense attorney's jaded eye, but don't doubt it can happen. We can theorize that the TV can carry more than its rated capacities, but we need to remember the TV capacities are only as strong as the weakest link. That may be payload, rear GAWR or the tires provided. Run the numbers. Again, the legal (according to our court system) and common sense aspect reigns here (rear axle actual weight rating and tire rating), but that's digressing to your level of view point. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and you've stated yours. Thanks for your input. Thing is, it has not been proven that I have seen, read or heard of, where staying under the actual rear axle rating (which is the the legal "specs" you speak of) has been proven to have caused or contributed uncommonly to an accident. If it has, please feel free to provide such evidence (legal or otherwise) so we can all learn from it and be that much wiser. Again, thanks for your input, as this open discussion often exposes opinionated avenues not yet discovered as fact.Re: Why doesn't the math work? The only legal weight restriction I've seen, heard, or read of in official guides, is the lesser of either the actual rear axle rating or the tires, which is usually the tires, as most 3/4 ton and 1 ton rear truck axles have at least a 10.5K weight rating.Re: What do you cionsider the "best" tow vehicle tire?I have the same truck... but mine came with 265/75/16's from the dealer. I upgraded them to 285's and got an unofficial increase in RAWR to 7500 lbs, which I'm nowhere close to in actual numbers. Our fiver tongue weight is only around 2000lbs wet and loaded. For tire brands (all in AT's), I've had Yokohama, which are nice tires, but too soft. I've had Hankook DynaPro ATM's which were very good tires - lasted a long time, but which I thought were noisy - however, I found out later that all or most of the noise was a bad hub bearing in the front left that I replaced shortly after I got new tires (and still heard a lot of noise). So I'm sure they weren't as noisy as I thought they were. Now the truck's as quiet as it's ever been. I now have BFG AT KO2's, and they are just as good as the Hankooks. The Hankooks and BFG's I would recommend, they give a solid ride when aired up while towing without hardly any sway to speak of. The Yokohama's seemed to have a lot of flex when towing, and gave an uneasy feeling. I also have Bilstein shocks that helped improve the stability while towing as well. I highly recommend Bilsteins. Good luck!Re: converterI'm thinking you should have two batteries... ours is a 2010 324rlb unit and has two. I would think we also have the same or similar converter. Our converter is in the hallway close to the floor. We replaced both batteries recently due to similar symptoms; lights dim, and wouldn't hold a charge as well as they used to. All is good with the new batteries.Re: Durmax LLY Losing primeI've had this same issue sporadically - mostly when towing but very seldom. I finally looked it up and read recommendations. First and cheapest fix was to replace the plastic bleed screw. Mine was pretty beat up so I ordered a metal one and put it on; the issue has not repeated since, but it hasn't been very long either, so I don't really know if it fixed it yet. Next will be replacing the entire filter head and WIF sensor as you did if the issue persists. Thanks for the link!
