I can camp all weekend and never see another person, sort of a rarity for Southern California. The picture is a still from a video I shot with my quad-copter.Re: "Cheap" fuel prices mileshuff wrote: Diesel cost isn't a big factor in the scope of things. On a 1000 mile week long round trip I'll burn about 100 gallons. At $1.25 thats $125. At $2.50 its $250. Overall cost of the trip is several times that. IOW's, Diesel is not the major expense of a trip for us. X2 After buying a new diesel truck, a new 5th wheel trailer, a new superglide hitch, 2 generators, and insurance for all the above the fuel cost becomes a minor component. If diesel went to $5 a gallon, I would eat out less, boondock more, and still go wherever I planned to go.Re: need help in borrego springs area 2gypsies wrote: From I-10 you can take 86 south and 78 west or 86 south and S22 west. You won't be going as far as Julian. We've done both. Have a good trip! X2 S22 is also called the Borrego Salton Seaway. Pretty much a straight shot to Borrego Springs.Re: Barstow, CA - BLM Owl Canyon CampgroundA few years ago we did some scouting in the area looking for new places to camp. One of the places we checked out was Owl Canyon campground. It seemed like a nice place to camp and it looked like it was close enough to Rainbow Basin to hike over there and look around. We were there in the early spring and the campground was empty except for a camp host.Re: Worries of going from a long bed to a short bedI also have a 2014 Chevy crew cab short bed with a Super Glide 16k hitch mounted to a superrail kit. I'm very happy with the combination.Re: Air in LP gas line. After picking up the trailer at the storage yard I'll open the valve on the propane tank and light one of the burners on the stove top to purge the air from the LP line. Once one of the burners stays lit I'll turn it off and then light the pilot on the refrigerator. You'd think that between the valve on the tank and the control knob on the stove top that the system would hold gas and not let air in but it doesn't. I've come to accept that that is just the nature of the beast.Re: Ridgeway Sport ST Tires? My 2016 Dutchmen Denali came equipped with Ridgway Sport ST tires in an E-rated 235/80x16 and yes it's Ridgway without the e. You get a few more hits on Google with it spelled that way, but info is still rather sparse. The good news is that they're NOT China bombs. Mine have a YT plant code on the sidewall which shows that they are made by Birla Tyres in India. Having never heard of Ridgway or Birla before, I guess the bad news is that I may possibly own India bombs instead. I've decided to leave the Ridgways on for at least a year while they're under warranty with the idea of possibly swapping them out for a set of Carlisle F-rated 235/85x16's later on. I have a Tyreminder TPMS to help me keep a close eye on the Ridgways. If you change tires don't forget to install metal valve stems at the same time. My last trailer was equipped with China bombs and when I lost the first one I had Maxxis tires installed. Within 18 months I lost 2 of the Maxxis tires when the cheap Chinese rubber valve stems failed. I had all my tires dismounted, installed metal valve stems, reinstalled the tires and never had another problem.
