Since we are gravitating to the area, it seems like a logical thing to do rather than towing back and forth each trip.Camper Storage in South AlabamaWe are getting closer to retirement and are looking for a place to store our trailer in the Baldwin County, Alabama area south of I-65. The ideal location would probably be in the Robertsdale or Foley area, but Bay Minette would be good too. Vendors who could put the cover on the trailer and take it off before we came down, would save these old bones some climbing on ladders. Maybe wash the trailer before covering. I know that I am asking a lot, but if you know of any place (from basic storage to my service wish list) please let me know.Re: St joseph peninsula state park gulf breeze reviewThis is one of our favorite parks. We were there twice last year. Boat lauch available. Water and electric only; dump station in park. If you like walking on the beach, reading, fishing, or bicycling, this is the place for you. All restaurants, fast food, grocery (other than two convenience type stores) or other things are about 30 miles away. Take everything you need with you. Ocean Breeze loop is pretty easy to see on Google Earth, more open with some concrete pads; best in summer months because of the air circulation. Piney Woods loop has more growth between sites and more shade; lots of bugs in the summer due to lack of sea breeze penetrating the forest. Best in winter because the trees can block the cold winds. Some concrete pad sites as well. There is a tackle shop next to the only gas station on the peninsula, but he closes the Sunday after Thanksgiving each year and I am pretty sure that he opens back up in March. Hope this helps. BTW, we like Henderson Beach in Destin too; just much smaller but near all the shopping, eateries, and conjestion.Re: Gulf State ParkOf course Foley is 20-30 mimutes from the beach. Depends on what you are looking for.Re: Fort Pickens is ClosedDoes anyone know if they actually had overwash (and reason to close the park) on the road over the December 21-22 weekend? Just wonder when they started letting people back in after the closure. BTW, we were able to go back to St. Joseph Peninsula State Park over the period, so we still had our Merry Christmas at the beach.Fort Pickens is ClosedJust got a call from Fort Pickens saying that they are closing at 5:00 p.m. today for all visitors and campers due to the expected storm over the weekend causing road overwash. They say that they will reassess the situation on Monday, Decemeber 23rd. Glad I haven't left home yet for my Saturday reservation, but I wonder if they will hold our reservation for a Tuesday/Wednesday arrival.Re: Gulf Shores/Orange Beach ALI think you may be talking about "Billy's" if you are looking to buy take-home seafood. It is not a restaurant, but it is really good seafood. There are signs for Billy's on Highway 59 that will guide your way, south of the Outlet Mall.Re: Christmas in South CarolinaWe stayed at Henderson Beach State Park a couple of Christmas's ago and enjoyed it. South of Murrel's Inlet. Weather was mild and the park was not crowded. Good food in the area but a more laid-back atmosphere.Re: Gulf Shores, AL at end of October? Was there a couple of weeks ago and stayed at the state park. No mosquitos at all but plenty of fire ants; bring or buy fire ant killer. Yesterday's water temp 81*. We stayed along the canal and every evening an 8-9' alligator came looking for food. It was obvious that people had been feeding it since it would come toward you if you looked like you were going to toss food. That does nothing to help the gator but will probably get it killed one day as a nuisance. Pier fishing or surf fishing was good while we were there.Re: white water rafting in GAContact Nantahala Outdoor Center for rafting information. They have locations on the Nantahala, Ocoee, and the Chatooga (think Deliverance) rivers. Great people to work with; experienced guides, good equipment. http://www.noc.com/
