Got the aluminum frame sections off after some heavy pounding and pulling. Pulled the rubber tread off the inside of the door and the exterior fiberglass off the outside of the door. Luan plywood at both the top and the bottom of the door completely rotted. Middle section was okay. The door is only 5 years old and is on a KZ MXT 303 toy hauler.Re: One night stand in the coldThanks everyone. I think I may pick up a heat tape for the fresh water supply line and put some antifreeze in the grey and black tanks I really appreciate the advice. Looks like I will be able to take a hot shower after my one night stand in the cold!!!One night stand in the coldI have a KZ MXT 303 toy hauler that I will be using this weekend in South Carolina for a motorcycle race. Temperatures will be around 45F during the day but are predicted to be 22F at night. Fresh, Grey and Black tanks are under the belly of the trailer, they are not insulated or heated. No hookups at the site so will be getting power from a generator and will have to bring water. I live in NC and currently tanks have been drained and water lines have been blown out and Antifreeze is in the PTraps. If I fill the fresh water tank 3/4 full do I need to worry about it freezing and busting the tank. What about black and Grey if they have some water in them will I risk breaking them. The water line that runs from the fresh water tank to the interior pump will be exposed to cold underneath trailer. It is a plastic hose. Do I need to put heat tape on it or will it bust if I let it freeze with water in it. I could skip the fresh water fill and just use gallon jugs for toilet, sinks but that will still put water in the black/grey tanks. Ideally after the race I would like to be able to shower. Went to a race two weekends ago in SC and it was 70 degrees was hoping the cold was done for the season.Re: Safety Chain link being crushed by hitch when turning CEddy wrote: I have a very similar problem with my setup- same Equal-i-zer hitch, same stupid V-shaped chain attach point under the coupler. My chain hasn't been crushed as bad as yours, though. For the record, the current chains have plenty of length, and I wouldn't say I've 'jack-knifed' my trailer any more than normal. I'm relocating my chains to the inside of the A-frame (new chains and hooks while I'm at it). I'm using bolt-on 12,000-lb D-rings as attachment points. There are also weld-on varieties if you're so inclined. After the new chains are on, the old attachment point will get cut off. Have you also had the issue where a link will get hung under the hitch head when unhitching and pick up the back of the truck? Wore my arm out cranking the tongue jack a few times before I figured that one out! I am trying to figure out why KZ the trailer manufacturer would put the safety chain attachment point in a place that would interfere with hitch. Planning to take to a welding shop to have them weld something under the bottom of the aframe on each side to attach safety chains. Trailer is only a year old so hoping to use the same chains and hooks minus a link. Have not ever had a problem with chains getting stuck in hitch head. Thought about a bolt on arrangement but figured a weld would be stronger. Haven't seen any bolt on work from the factory and not crazy about drilling the frame.Re: Towing a Toy Hauler with a F150 EcoboostI think the truck manufacturers and the RV folks both do a big disservice to the consumer with all the 1/2 towable ads and pushing Towing capacity. I bought my F150 thinking I could tow 11,000+ pounds and I guess I could if I was pulling a tow sled tied to a cable!!!. I had thought about a F250 but just didn't want to drive the F250 on a daily basis and never thought I would ever approach the max tow capacity of the F150 and I never will. However, once I started really looking at trailers and all of the specs on payload, tongue weight, hitch weight, and all of the posts on forums like this I became really frustrated that maybe I had bought the wrong truck. I had to search long and hard for a solution and was fortunate that the KZ MXT 303 would meet my minimum needs for hauling and with a GVW of 8,800 would keep me just inside all of the legal weight specs. Yes I can't put anything in the truck other than myself, wife and son but it works and none of us can gain any weight. If I had it to do over again, yes I would have probably gone with a bigger truck. But I trade vehicles about every 6 to 10 years so no way was I going to dump a 6 month old F150 that is a great truck to move up to the F250.Re: Safety Chain link being crushed by hitch when turningRewelding to a different spot was my first thought but when I called RV dealer about it they were hesitant to reweld. Trying to decide if I should take it to them for reweld or just find a welder that will do the job. Reading about safety chains everyone says the location of the holder is the best location vs on ibeam under the tongue. With the weight distributing hitch the safety chains will probably never see action unless the hitch pin would break. The chains are not to short if anything they may be a tad long.Re: Towing a Toy Hauler with a F150 EcoboostHaul a Polaris RZR 800 and two Honda CRF 250's in the garage.Safety Chain link being crushed by hitch when turningI was getting trailer ready for a first spring trip and noticed that the first link of the safety chain on the trailer side is almost busted in half. I need to move trailer from storage area to house and decided to put a repair link on for extra measure. It got slightly smashed as well. Chain is getting pinched between trailer safety chain connector on the end of the trailer tongue and the lower part of my equalizer hitch. Trying to decide how to fix. Should I have safety chain connector welded to a different position. Not sure how to change the Equalizer hitch unless I could somehow raise the ball on the hitch. Chain is being pinched with just a 40-45 degree turn. Pic of smashed safety chain Pic of hitch. Safety chain is hitting the wing area at the end of the hitch where you see a bit of rust next the progress name. Moderator edit to re-size pictures to forum limit of 640px maximum width. Re: Towing a Toy Hauler with a F150 EcoboostI tow a KZ MXT 303 toy hauler with a 2012 F150 Ecoboost Platinum with Max Tow. I am in spec all they way around on the weights, payload, rear axle, tongue weight etc. We did a 4,000 mile trip from NC to Utah. I forgot I had a trailer at times. No problems going over the mountains. The truck towed the KZ great. have an equalizer hitch. Only issue I had was wind blowing me around a bit in the wide open plains. the 303 is 30 feet long and makes for a pretty good sail behind the F150. The equalizer will let the trailer move but it brings it right back in line.
