LOVE the temperate weather, friendly RVers, and new things to explore.I-45 League City to N side of Houston - clearance? My Motor Carrier's atlas is dated 2012. It shows a low clearance of 13 feet on I-45 just 1/4 mile north of the I-10 junction. Is that still accurate? I find it hard to believe that I-45 thru Houston isn't a truck route. I'm driving a MH towing by myself, and need to know in advance if there is a re-route due to height. I greatly appreciate the help!Re: Texas RV parksI'm on Mustang Island. Gulf Waters and Pioneer appear mostly full with a few empty spots. There are RVs coming and going daily from these two parks.Re: I miss having a local community. Advice?I'm a solo Winter Texan, under age 50. I've stayed in RV parks for the last several months, usually for 2 weeks or more. The parks where snowbirds stay for a few months at a time have been the most friendly by far in my experience. It helps that the weather is usually nice, so people are out on their patios or at the pool. I visit with my neighbors daily, and the parks have several activities during the week. Heck, I even went stag to the Valentine's Day dinner and had a really nice time. If you spend time around other RVers you'll be with others who are traveling and temporary like you. Driveway camping, you're with people who are tied down and have their own agenda, family, job, interests, and you're a little more like a house guest. Find a park in nice weather with activities like happy hour, fishing trips, golf scrambles, Daytona 500 party, open mic night, etc. They're not all potlucks and bingo =)Re: RV Park destroyed in Tornado DFW last nightI was in DFW with the RV a few weeks ago. Severe storms with tornadoes were expected to hit after 2am. I went to the office and asked where the tornado shelter or storm was. They didn't have one or know what I meant. I asked if a church or school nearby had one, no idea. So I rode it out in the MH. I was surprised, because they get far more severe weather in TX than we do up north.Re: Reflections on a Trip SouthGreat post, Dodger! Thank you!Re: What About Mandalay? We bought a used Mandalay DP and are enjoying it. Ours is 43', has 4 slides, a 425 Cummins, a tag axle, hydronic heat, a quiet 10 K generator. It has lots of nice extras like an outdoor TV, washer and dryer set, electric fireplace. Drives very nicely, too.Re: Milwaukee and Chicago DrewE wrote: rolling_rhoda wrote: We really enjoyed the City Museum in Milwaukee. It has nice variety in it's exhibits -- something for everyone. Is that the Milwaukee Public Museum? The "City Museum" that I know of by that name is the St Louis City Museum, which is also a neat stop but obviously isn't in or near Milwaukee. . Yes, the Milwaukee Public Museum. Thanks.Re: Milwaukee and ChicagoWe really enjoyed the City Museum in Milwaukee. It has nice variety in it's exhibits -- something for everyone. In Chicago, the Field Museum of Natural History and the Shedd Aquarium are very family friendly. I'd also recommend going to the Skydeck of the Willis Tower, tallest building in the western hemisphere. It's gorgeous around sunset, and you can watch the city light up for nighttime. If the weather is nice, bring a soccer ball or a Frisbee and hang out in one of the parks along the waterfront.Re: Unusual or little known sights worth seeingCherokee Strip Regional Heritage Center, Enid, OK Sight of the largest competition in human history. Beautiful museum with lovely docents tells the very interesting story of the land rush and subsequent development of the wheat and oil industries in Oklahoma. Well worth going out of the way for!
