Many of these were built for FEMA after Hurricane Katrina.Re: Travel Trailer Size?A Crossroads 26RL works great for the two of us. One slide, two comfortable chairs, loveseat that makes a bed, booth for dining, queen bed, full bath. We tow with a Toyota Tundra, I like being able to tow with a 1/2 ton. When we park the trailer we have a very comfortable driver to go exploring. Occasionally we bring our grandaughters along and still don't feel cramped for space.Re: Picked up my TT this weekend, Do I need air bags?I have been reading your posts with great interest, I recently bought a Tundra to pull my 2011 Crossroads 26RL. I just got the hitch set up today and haven't had a chance to try it. I did order a set of Hellwig helper springs, they come highly recommended. I have two good friends that tow with Tundras, one 30 footer, the other a 32 footer. Both are quite happy with their set-up, one just bought his second Tundra. The "get a bigger truck" is not an option with me, I like a comfortable daily driver that my wife can drive on occasion. If need be I will down size my trailer to fit the Tundra.Re: SUV for towing trailerI have a 2011 Zinger 26RL so should be just about like your trailer. I was recently pulling it with a 2007 3/4 ton Yukon with the 6.0, 4.10 differential. The Yukon pulled it well enough but I was not happy with the 4 speed transmission. When pulling in drive (4th gear) the trans. was continually shifting up and down (had to replace a torque converter). If I pulled in third gear the engine RPM was around 3200 and the MPG went to about 8 MPG. I might have been better off with a 3.73 differential. The previous owner pulled the Zinger with a 1/2 ton Ford. I traded for a Toyota Tundra, haven't pulled the Zinger yet, Just got the hitch set up today, we'll see how that goes.Re: Buy Truck First or Used RV First??I'm new to this forum but I have owned various travel trailers over the past years. That said, I have to agree with Slowmover. A good 25/27' tongue pull can be had in the 10K range and with a slide should be plenty big for just you and the pooch. A lighter TV will pull this size trailer fine. One factor to consider, if you are full timing you may want to leave your trailer in one place for awhile and drive to see the sights. One ton trucks are great pullers but are not the most desirable daily drivers. I absolutely don't want to own another dually, they don't fit the drive thru lanes or parking spaces and have too many tires on the ground. We presently have a 2011 Crossroads 26RL that we pull with a 2015 Toyota Tundra. This combination works great for us. Best advice is to talk to a lot of owners and kick a lot of tires before you decide what to buy.Re: help for KZ Sportsmen forumI also tried to register with the KZ Sportmen Forum with no results. I never got any reply. I did pick up some extremely good info from the old posts that were available, including info with photos for the axle flip. It's a shame that the forum is not more active.Re: flipping axles and shocksOn my trailer the axle is not straight has about a 3" offset. The axle is actually not "flipped" or rotated. The axle is moved from the top of the springs to the bottom. The old perch is welded to the axle so that when you move the axle in relation to the spring a new perch is needed. It should also be welded to the axle. There is a forum for KZ, SportsmenClassicClub.com that has some good info about flipping the axle.Re: flipping axles and shocksAdded info, The axle flip and 14" tires raised the trailer about 4 1/2" as best I could tell. The stabilizers and jack are still plenty long. The step is not unmanageable, I did add a 5" high wooden step to use if I plan to stop for awhile. My KZ does not have shocks, I thought about adding them but really don't know if I need to. I'll be glad to post photos if someone will give me directions how to attach them!Re: flipping axles and shocksI bought a KZ 16BH, single axle a couple of months ago, dragged bottom several times on the way home with it. The first thing I did was flip the axle to raise it up and put on 14" tires. I bought the fittings to flip the axle at the local Tractor supply, took about two hours to do the job. I did several more modifications (added a second propane tank and battery) to get it where I could boondock if I need to. I bought the fittings to flip the axle at the local Tractor Supply, about a two hour job. I have pulled the trailer on one trip to Northern Colorado, 1800 miles round trip, pulled great, I am very satisfied with the axle flip so far. Added bonus is that the holding tanks drain much better due to the increased height.Re: First weekend in our KZ 16rbt.I would be interested to see the photos and hear how your KZ works out, I recently bought a KZ 16BH. I have only pulled it on one trip but so far, so good.
