Just throwing this out there and I know some will want to beat me up so fire away. I do not want a dual wheel pickup for a daily driver and I do not want an extra vehicle. Here is my setup and my weights. F-250 diesel, short bed crew cab, 7,500# air bags. Jayco Pinnacle with MORride pin box. I looked at the F-350 srw and the axle ratings are the same, 5200# front and 6340# rear. Springs are the only difference, hence the airbags. 20 inch Michelin tires rated at 3750# each for a total of 7500# per axle. Loaded to travel the scale ticket says, front axle 4,640#, rear axle 6,900#. So I am ok on everything except rear axle and it is 560# over the rating. I have been running this setup for 2 years. It drives and rides like a dream, no bouncing, no bucking, no chunking and it stops almost as quick as the truck by itself. It will go faster uphill than I want to go. We went all over Colorado last year (including the million dollar highway) and not once did it feel unsafe. I guess time will tell what the 560# over on the rear axle will do.America The Beautiful PassWell I will be 62 this week. I believe I will head down and get my pass. Last year it was $10, now it’s $80. Just my luck but it’s still a bargain.Re: 2500HD or 3500HDOP here. Sorry I have away from the computer. Thank you for all the replies. The dealers around here do not stock any of the 3500HD's in the short bed SRW so driving one would be hard to do. When I get ready to pull the trigger I will have to see what is available. Usually doing a special order costs more that buying in stock vehicles, especially during the model year close out. And yes, we do plan on going to a 5th wheel trailer but it will be within the capacity of the truck.2500HD or 3500HDI am window shopping for a new tow vehicle. Probably a year or more away from pulling the trigger. What I want is a SRW short bed. I am leaning toward the GM with a Duramax. I was thinking I wanted a 3500 but my friend tells me the only difference is the rear suspension. He says the 2500 with airbags will do the same thing and offer a better ride. Can anyone comment on this. Are the axles and brakes the same. I tried to research this but did not really find what I was looking for. thanks for any input.Re: Common question: Should I get a TT or MH? Selling after 6mo Triker33 wrote: For only 3 months. Rent a Class C. When done just return it. No hassle with registering, a RV sales tax to pay that will be gone. Up keep and deprecation loss. And time spent trying to sale it at a loss in a buyers market now. What he said. Breakdown-not your problem. Park and walk away when finished. If something happens and you have to cut your trip short-return it and walk away.Re: Question about towing?? Grit dog wrote: Chopper2122 wrote: Thanks, I suppose the 600 bucks might be worth the piece of mind. No, but it will lighten your wallet giving you approx .2lbs extra payload capacity. The common consensus on here is that ANY TT needs a wdh. Don’t worry about it. Dealer waiver is code for get a little more profit out of the customer. If you feel you need one after towing (you won’t unless the trailer is reaaaly tongue light) to control sway, either figure out how to get the right tongue weight or you can buy one then. The reason for that being the common consensus on here is the fact that for a great number of them (me included) their vehicle/hitch will not handle 700 to 1200 lbs of tongue weight without a wdh. I am within all of my ratings but my hitch is rated for 12,000 and a 500 tongue weight. If the OP has the truck/hitch to handle the load, he will not need a wdh if the trailer is loaded correctly. I would say that several on this forum, if not most, towing a TT do not have that truck.Re: Question about towing??This is what I use. In my opinion it is the best bang for the buck. My trailer is 2x as big and heavy as yours and it is a one handed drive. I installed it myself in less than one hour. It comes with everything you need and easy to follow directions for less than $400. Husky Centerline
