Winds there and across Nebraska were pretty much constant, but never extreme. Our experience has been just what the previous poster said, the wind has been coming from whatever direction we have been heading. Even when we changed from heading east to heading south in Missouri, the wind took note and changed from being out of the east to being out of the south.Re: Avoid Rawlins to Cheyenne WY? Need help, Gros Ventre to I80.Thanks for all of the input. We ended up taking 26/287 through Casper, and we are now in Guernsey, WY. I had checked the weather forecasts before leaving, and as forecasted, we really just had light winds. That's not to say that we didn't have an occasional gust. It was a scenic and fairly easy ride. We will see what tomorrow brings, but the forecasts again show light winds.Avoid Rawlins to Cheyenne WY? Need help, Gros Ventre to I80.We are currently staying at Gros Ventre and are heading home to Georgia tomorrow. I had planned to take Hwy 189/191 to I-80 at Rock Springs and then head east. I read a number of posts that said Rawlins to Cheyenne should be avoided due to frequent high winds. I am now thinking that I should take 287 out of Grand Tetons to 26 and follow 26 to I-80 at Ogallala. Would that be a better route or should I stick with the original plan and just be aware that wind might be a factor? Thanks in advance for your help.Re: Can I walk on top of slide? Thanks for the input. I think I will stick with using ladders. Not worth risking damage to the slide. Can I walk on top of slide?I am in the process of replacing my slide toppers and did the bedroom slide using ladders. I have a friend lined up to help me with the dining/living slide in the next few days. I am sure that we can do it using ladders, but it looks like it might be easier if one of us was on top of the slide. Can I stand on top of the slide unit without causing damage to the slide? Thanks for your input.Re: Grand Teton then YellowstoneThanks to everyone for your input. I plan to book 2-3 nights in a smaller site in FIshing Bridge and likely a couple of nights in Madison now. Will do a little more research before trying to fill in the other nights, or try to fill in when we get there with the non-reservable campgrounds that were mentioned.Grand Teton then YellowstoneI am looking for some campground suggestions on a trip that my wife and I are planning for August 2014. I have read through many past posts on this topic and believe that I am beginning to get a feel for the campgrounds, but having never been there, I thought that I would solicit input for our particular situation. We will be bringing our 14' Coleman Travel Trailer (not a popup/hybrid). We want to spend 3 nights in Grand Teton NP and 7 nights in Yellowstone. We prefer to camp inside the parks. We will be bringing a generator, and by the time we make the trip, plan to have added a second battery and replaced the existing camper lights with LED lights. We are not very experienced in dry camping, but think that is something that we want to do on this trip. (My main dry camping concern at this point is killing the batteries with the furnace if it gets too cold.) We plan to arrive at Grand Teton on 8/14/14. My preliminary thoughts are to camp with no hookups in Grand Teton, then camp with hookups at Fishing Bridge for 3 nights. After that, possibly spend 2 nights each at 2 other campgrounds without hookups before leaving Yellowstone. Based on this scenario, what campgrounds would you recommend? Since the rates for the different size sites are all the same at Fishing Bridge, should I just book the largest site to give us more room even though I am bringing our small rig? Thanks in advance for all of your suggestions.Re: Did you name your RV?We have never named the 5er, but we just bought a 14' tag a long and named it "Stumpy".Re: Found out difference in Roadside Assistance providersI should have kept Coachnet, but didn't see any obvious difference at the time and thought I could save a few bucks. In fairness to Good Sam, a different set of events could have shown them to be the preferred provider. I was really posting more to tell how the two providers handled these two very similar situations in very different ways.Found out difference in Roadside Assistance providersFor the past few years, we purchased roadside assistance plans from Coachnet. Two years ago, I got the "opportunity" to utilize the service. We had a flat tire on our 5th wheel in Florida. Coachnet promptly dispatched a service provider, and at my request, he brought a new tire to put on the rim rather than use the spare that I was a little concerned about. My cost for this service was the cost of the new tire. This year, I decided to go with Good Sam rather than continue with Coachnet. Unfortunately, I got a chance to test their service yesterday. We had a blowout on a 2-year old tire that has been properly maintained. The Good Sam agent asked if we had a spare (we do), but I asked about having a new tire brought out to be installed rather than using the spare. What I found out was that I would be responsible for a $130 labor fee for the tire service plus the cost of the tire that I would be buying from Good Sam since they have an agreement with Goodyear. I didn't ask about the cost of the tire since I had already located a replacement tire 1.5 miles away. I had the spare put on, drove to the tire dealer, and was quickly on my way. Coachnet's plan may have changed since my experience, but I will definitely find out at renewal time. Right now, I am leaning towards Coachnet.
