For Atlanta it was light traffic moving the speed limit most of the time. That is the only time I will go through.Re: Campground recommendation Memphis or North Miss.We have stayed in Memphis 2 times. Last time was June 2022. Both times we stayed at the Agricenter, https://www.agricenter.org/rvpark. It is not a resort but affordable, safe and good location for visiting Memphis. The sites are close. We would stay there again if we find ourselves back there.Re: Natchez traceDW and I drove the parkway a free years ago. One of our best experiences was at Grand Gulf Military Monument Park. It has good campground and a great museum. We will definitely go there again if we are back in the area We enjoyed our trip very much. We should have given ourselves more time. it took us 4 driving days but 10 days total because we stayed 2 or 3 nights at the campgrounds that we started at.Re: Private property parkingTry boondockerswelcome.com. I know you have to pay if you use it to find a place to stay but not sure if you are offering a place to stay.Re: Leaving dog at campsiteI have found that many dogs do bark when left alone. One time in Ohio there were two dogs, one on both sides of us that barked for hours while their owners were gone. I finally went to the office and complained. The owners were at one of the campers before I could walk back and luckily one of the dogs owners just got back. They were told they could not leave the dog unattended. They said their dog does not bark, but the CG owners had heard it barking. The people wanted to leave again without the dog but we're told that was not an option. Another time in Alaska a dog barked for hours and hours. Most dog owners may not believe it but there are times that their dogs do bark when left alone. That is why we do not have a dog. It is not fair to the dog nor to the other campers left to hear the barking. Just my humble opinion.Re: Paid Caravans to Alaska Worth it?We have some friends that took a caravan to Alaska and enjoyed it. A couple years later they went back on their own. DW and I went to Alaska the year I retired in 2012. The whole trip was 114 days and the cost was just about $10,000. Gas was the biggest expense, but the price of gas is lower than when we went. We still keep in touch with a few of the folks we met on the trip. For us the cost of going with a caravan is not worth it, but we know there are people that enjoy going with others. Have fun whatever you decide.Re: Are campgrounds more crowded or is it just me?Also with a lot of the big tourist attractions closed people are buying campers. When the virus started getting places closed I thought it would be a good time for us to get a new camper. I was wondering. I have a friend that used to work maintenance at CW that told me that sales are way up. These folks are going camping somewhere.Re: Family National Parks Road TripI once took my teenage daughter and two of her friends on a similar 21 day trip. We left from middle Georgia to South Dakota, Yellowstone, Washington, back to South Bend Indiana with a lot of places in-between. There were some moments but overall a great trip that 25 years later we still talk about it. Since then my wife and I have gone back to many of those place and spent more time. Have a great trip.Re: ReserveAmerica RefundsWe had a problem with Recreation.gov. We had to call them before we received our refund. For some reason they were showing that they had already giving us the refund. A phone call got it straightened out.Re: How do you summer travel?I agree with the above. It is real nice being over 62 and can stay in Corp of Engineer Parks at half price with the national Park pass. Also some National Forest campgrounds have electric hookups and with the national Park pass. Next comes Passport America. You can usually find a park for about $20 or a little less. Many cities and counties also have low priced campgrounds that are nice. I do check campground reviews on all parks before staying. Back in the day, I also wanted to stay at Walmart, but for me I found them too noisy to get a good night sleep. Enjoy camping
