It just depends on whether there are gate available. We have never had to wait on a gate. Maybe we have just been lucky or our timing is good. Anyway, go to the website guard1services.com there you can fill out an online application. You will also need to pay to take an online test for Texas security license. Word of warning-- the job is not for everyone. There are rattlesnakes, various wildlife, illegal aliens (very rarely), and dust to deal with. But you can make a good amount of money in a short amount of time compared to the amount of physical labor. Very easy job. Hope this helps.Re: Information Discussion for Gate GuardsTexan, I am curious. We are taking time off for health reasons, too. I was wondering if you are experiencing cancer tumors? On face? Eyes? This is what is happening to my better half.Re: Information Discussion for Gate GuardsWe have been on the same gate now 8 months. We are just off the paved road so very little dust. We have seen no snakes, but there is a huge hog in the neighborhood, hasn't bothered us yet. We love love love this job, however, will not work another summer in southern Texas! We have friends that work a gate not too far away, so that helps with the boredom and helps to have someone to go shopping with.Re: Where are you working/volunteering this summer?I am really jealous of all ya'll. We needed a serious bump up on the old savings account so....we are gate guarding in south Texas. Money is really good. Anyway we have all ready experienced 100+ temps. Work is really easy. Haven't seen any rattlers yet. Did have a tarancula (forgive spelling) visit us the other night while we were sitting under the awning. We have seen wild hogs and deer, but no coyotes or mountain lions. Dust not bad. We have friends gging as well this summer so we give each other a day off here and there. We will be leaving next May 2014 for a summer of nothing but travel, sight seeing and fun fun fun! Happy and safe travels to all!!!!Re: Information Discussion for Gate GuardsThis is in reply to not enough water when washing clothes. I am betting you have a washer/dryer that is NOT vented, they use a huge amount of water to dry clothes. We have a vented one and I wash 3 or 4 loads a week, shower, etc and 250 gallons is plenty. Our friends (gate guards) replaced their washer/dryer last month and have seen a huge difference in the amount of water they use. Just food for thought.Re: Information Discussion for Gate GuardsJust wanted to say HI to all! We worked campgrounds for the last 4 years. Now we are working to gate guarding. We have been on the same gate on FM469 for the last 4 months and think we should be here at least another year. We love this job and will never do campgrounds again. One more year, gets our budget/bankaccount where we want it. Then we will gate guard in the winter and play in the summer. It has been dusty on an occasion but not all the time. All I have to say is since we have to work some of the time WE LOVE THIS JOB! Money is good. From what we are hearing there will be 18 more wells drilled here. Can wait to watch the drilling. We have fiends just south of Cotulla that we trade time off. And it is nice to have someone to go shopping with.
