I wire brushed the loose stuff, pressure washed it, let it dry, and then brushed on KrudKutter's rust converter. It worked for the most part, but needed 2 coats as it went on like water as it's a really thin product. Once it dried I washed the trailer again to get rid of any excess that hadn't adhered/converted rust, then went through 8 cans of Rustoleum gloss black spraypaint. Been a year now and still looks good, but there are some rust pocks coming back - trailer lives outside uncovered, so this was somewhat expected. I've heard good things about CorrosionX, so I plan to treat the belly with it come spring time. Good luck on your tedious project http://corrosionx.com/corrosionx.htmlRe: Does This TH Exist?Livin Lite makes what you're after. All aluminum builds. No wood to rot. Counterspace can easily be expanded, but the interiors do look a bit utilitarian. But it's the lightest 32' fw I've EVER seen @ 7k dry with a 10k gvwr. http://www.livinlite.com/8_5x325thwheel-overview.php Re: Featherlite Project - Ideas & Opinions Welcome!!How's the progress coming along? Any new build pics to share? Looks great so farRe: Looking to buy first toy hauler Advice? Reccomendationd? From all that I'm finding, these seem to be fairly capable little trucks for what they are.....although I had your same thought pattern initially. You aren't wrong in implying that cautionary intelligence needs to be applied with the size/weight/TW of my purchase, but if I'm planning to weigh in at half a ton under gvwr LOADED then I don't see where the limits would be pushed beyond reason? Here's a link to what I'm talking about... http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/towing/27460-show-us-what-you-tow-102.htmlRe: Van and TT, or light truck and TH? camperdave wrote: You can look in my .sig and see what I chose. :B My van is set up for day trips and solo overnighting with motorcycles, the trailer comes too when the family joins me. I thought about a toyhauler, but realistically most of my riding is solo and I don't really need the RV stuff (a porta-potti and coleman stove in the back of the van do me just fine!). And at least half of my camping is with the family and no motorcycles, so the TH just didn't make sense compared to a van (which I admittedly already owned) and TT combo. Thanx for the input! Since the wife and I both do trackdays, we need space and payload enough for both of us so the truck/TH or TT/van would be best. Our bikes weigh in about 900lbs together and wet, so the van would need to be at least a 3/4 ton or more to hold the load and tug a TTRe: Van and TT, or light truck and TH?Guys on the Tacoma forum are tugging up to 24' haulers, but cant say it's a safe way to do it. I plan on an aluminum 18-20' that will weigh in about max of 5500 loaded.Re: Van and TT, or light truck and TH?Really think either scenario is a wash since both ways would hit budget, but after thoughts do eventually put more cost on my wallet with the additional vehicle ( van ) maintenance/insurance. Guess all in all, I'll most likely put some upgrades on my Tacoma and spend the extra on an aluminum TH. I'd rather spend more on a newer/nicer TH that I plan to keep for a decade vs buying a used van and travel trailer that would likely nickel-n-dime me the whole time.....not to mention I hate working on vans since the powerplants are smashed under a 20" hood :DRe: Looking to buy first toy hauler Advice? Reccomendationd?I'm in the same boat. Debating a small TH to tow with my Tacoma, or just pull the trigger on a Tundra to get more TH options. Although the payload isn't as much as a 3/4 or 1 ton, the Tundra is an overbuilt 1/2 ton in the brakes/trans/drivetrain dept. I've always been a Toyota fan, this is my 5th Toyota truck ( 4 Tacoma & an early Tundra ) I've been researching for months now ( still a year away from actually committing on a purchase ) and what I'm finding is add 30-50% to your budget so you'll get a quality RV to KEEP instead of scraping up just enough funds to buy into a substandard one that you'll be trading/selling in less than 5 years. Good luck on the huntRe: Summer BeerAnytime can be cocktail hour, just byob! Heck of a drive for ya coming from Cali though :D :D I was thinking Bud Lime since I dont care for it much as is, but with lemonade it would likely be pretty tasty. And thats the magical part with this concoction....cheap stuff tastes good when mixed and masked with lemonade. Wondering if it would work with cider ales like Woodchuck or Redds and mixed equal vodka/apple juice?Re: Summer Beer Campfire Time wrote: Why go through all that? Just buy a case of Leinenkugel's Summer Shandy. Go through ALL that? What's tough about it? Ya dump it all together and give it a stir.....done. Not to mention it only takes a few glasses of summer beer to ramp up your mood vs a half dozen or more Leinenkugel
