Running the slide out on batteries only may trigger a fault and require a reset. Run the generator or plug in and there won't be any problem.Re: towing a car^ Been there, done that, got the t-shirt. Five years ago, I bought a 2014 Fiesta ST. The Fiesta was listed as towable on the FMCA site. Later, I found out that the six speed manual transmission in the ST was not towable. Lesson learned...Re: towing a carI've towed an 01 Jeep Cherokee, three different Grand Cherokees and now a 2019 Cherokee Limited with the Ready Brute Elite tow bar with surge braking. My new Cherokee has the optional 2.0 turbocharged engine, which is worlds different from the 01 Cherokee with the straight six. The old six would get about 12.5 mpg in normal city driving. The new 2.0T, with way more power and torque is showing 27.5 so far on an engine that's just breaking in. The EPA rating is only about 20 mpg. To be towable, this model requires the Active Drive II transfer case with neutral. Depending on your needs, towing capacity and budget, something like the new Cherokee is very comfy, has 4WD and decent room. Several smaller FWD cars and others are flat towable. A lot of cars with manual transmissions are towable. Just make sure the car you want will work. For example, I bought a 2014 Fiesta ST thinking that all Fiestas were towable. It turned out that the ST model with the six speed manual wasn't towable.Re: Thinking of downsizing from DP to ViewWe made a similar transition for 40'+ diesel pushers to a Dynamax Isata 24FW. We liked this model for the full wall slide with a reclining love seat & console. It maximizes the living space in a sub 25' class C. We've had it for two months and five weekend trips, and we don't regret the decision.Re: Negotiating price on a used class c.I'm surprised that nobody has mentioned NADA guides. It gives you the average retail and low retail for the RV you're looking for. Don't add options and use that figure for your negotiations. The advertised price has little relationship to reality so don't work toward a set "discount".Re: 24’ - 27’ floorplans. We're in the same kind of market, but leaning toward the Mercedes diesels especially the Tiffin 24TW or 24FW. I drove a 24TW yesterday and it's pretty quiet, much quieter than the Ford V-10. The 24TW has one small slideout at the couch or dinette (both convert to a bed) and a bunk over the cab. In the back are twin beds that convert to a king. The one I drove had the optional hydraulic leveling jacks. The 24FW has a full wall slide with a queen Murphy bed. The one we're looking at has a dinette that converts and no bunk over the cab. We've owned diesel Class A motorhomes, but I'd like something we can park at home and our parking is very limited. We do have a spot where a 25' Class C motorhome will fit nicely. I brought the 24FW to the house, backed it into the parking spot and it fit with no problem. We don't have kids, but we do have two dogs and a cat. The idea of quick trips with little to no planning is appealing. We can visit out of town friends and park in their driveway. I don't think we'll need a tow car since they're small enough to run to the store for anything we forgot to pack.Re: Ford Focus and braking system"So, why do they claim the Ford is towable, when in several states it would be illegal, without a braking system." It's simple. Many braking systems do not require power. I've used systems like the Air Force One with diesel motorhomes and currently have the NSA tow bar with surge braking. Neither requires power from the toad. Ford isn't responsible for your braking system and yes, the Focus is easily towable. With a battery disconnect switch, it takes about a minute to setup the car for towing.Re: Roadside ServiceI've had both and have been satisfied with both of them. I'm using Good Sam now since the price is lower.Re: How long before buying a toadWe did one trip, renting a car at the destination, and one trip with no car. That was it. After the second trip we got a 2001 Jeep Cherokee and haven't looked back. The toad eventually became a daily driver Grand Cherokee. If you're staying more than a few days, a toad really is a necessity.Re: Tucson Repair shop for ChassisYou might want to talk to Rick's RV Service. I had him do some work and he seems to know his stuff.
