All ActivityMost RecentMost LikesSolutionsRe: Trailer hitch for fifth wheelI have 2011 dodge dually hooked up to 04 Montana. The hitch is a 16k reese slider. Its noisy as hell but works good. Just make noise starting and stopping. If i did it over most of folks that i have talked on this site said B&W is better. Probably go that route. Anyway, prior to the dodge had an 04 f350 crew short bed and blew out rear electric slider on uneven ground because i thought i did not need to slide hitch. Expensive window for the insurance company. Any way i would advise you to go with the auto hitch. And at very least if you go manual slide; slide it back every time even if you don't think you need it. Keeps rollers on hitch moving and is just the safe thing to so.Re: no maintance batteryAs far as the maintenance free battery i have two optima battery in my Montana. Everything works great and had no problems. They are probably over kill for the price. Especially if u r not going self contained. Standard group 24 maintence free should be fine. Just purchase a decent brand name. Interstate, exide etc. And as far as the other issue with the gas detecter chirping and landing gear not moving i would check and make sure the converter is charging first. Multimeter on battery approx. should read 13-14.2 volts. If its not check fuses and such and that your 110v cord is plugged in correctly and that the breaker has not tripped in the house or something stupid. 2 years to me is a little soon to be replacing what i aasume is a deep cycle battery. But its possible. Hope some of this help. Furch5263Re: 2100 keystone cabana no sway or load leveling do i need it?I agree with you guys about the whole new truck idea. Just trying to help him out. I did not know they sold a light duty level hitch. Very interesting. Also, not sure if he has the rv manuals but i will tell him to look. Great suggestions. I agree that he should have the hitch no matter what. It can only make it safer, and easier to tow.2100 keystone cabana no sway or load leveling do i need it?Howdy folks, hoping someone can point my brother in law in the safe direction. He has a 2000 keystone cabana hybrid. He got a great deal on the camper. Only question i have is does or should he have a load leveling and anti sway hitch. It seems to me that he should. His truck is a 2004 sport trac. It came with out the hitch. We put that on so i am also concerned about not having a tranny cooler. Also, not sure this truck is big enough to tow this trailer. Just figured i would ask. Looks like to me the truck might be on the max limit side. Thanks any help would be greatly appreciated. Furch5263Re: 5th wheel hitchI also have the same hitch. As they said pay attention to that spring. Also, the slide rollers. Made a trip a few years back to walt disney world went to use the slide it would not move. Had to lift camper weight off truck some hold trailer brake and give the truck some throttle. And Bang!!! One hell of a noise but it moved. Thank god. Very frustrating after driving 1100 miles and not being able to get in my site. All worked out but sure did learn a lesson the hard way. Now i grease them every time. No problems since. Just out of curiosity does your slide make a hell of a racket when you take off and stop. Mine does and drives me crazy. I was told that is just the way it is. I don't know seems to me that reese being the company they are would have something to solve this. Furch5263Re: Slide Pump Leak?I have a montana with the lippert pump as well. I took my pump out cleaned it all up with brake clean as well and let dry. Only difference i did was used the permetex product made for ATF fluid. I gooped the******out of the oring a assembled. It been about 3 weeks and all is good. I also left my slides out figured this way there would be less fluid to deal with and less air intrusion. I am sure using the black will work fine. That is what i was going to use. Then i saw the stuff for ATF. I did let the pump sit for the full 24 hrs for the curing. Furch5263Re: how do you know when to tradeI am in the same boat. Have a ten year old fifth. Starting to show heavy signs of wear. Repaired quite a bit of stuff already. But, the big stuff is left A/C is in need of replacing. And the rubber roof is going to need to be replaced adventually. Starting to bubble up and i guess the adhesive is losing its grip on the edpm roof. Of course my better half is all in for a new one. Its funny how these things go, starts off with the small items to go first And then all of a sudden the big ticket item comes and you want to jump ship. Kinda of get it i guess, 7-10,000 for roof replacement is probably not worth it and would be better spent on a down payment on a new one. Always nice to get new, but i really hate payments like the rest of you. Furch5263Re: Ram Fifth Wheel Prep and Reese AdapterI have a 2011 short bed dodge ram dually with a 16k hitch and manual slider. Mine is noisy as hell. Drives me nuts when taking off and stopping. I have checked it out several times and i am assuming its the locking pawls on the slider making the noise. Wish i could do something to get rid of it. But, from hearing most of you guys i should just sell it and buy a B&W. Damn things aren't cheap and seems a shame there isn't some way to deal with it. Other than the noise and having to get out of truck to operate slide mechanism I am ok with the reese. Have to keep those steel rollers lubricated otherwise they seize up. Not fun to deal with. i am very happy with the exhaust filter. That DEF fluid just seems like another government gimmick to have us spend more money. Especially at over $4 a gallon for fuel thats less refined than gas.Re: coiled breakaway cable for 5th wheelTough crowdRe: coiled breakaway cable for 5th wheelSorry just got your post!
