No restaurants, entertainment, shopping, etc.Re: Keystone Avalanche or Best quality 5th wheelWe bought an Avalanche last April. Right off the bat we had problems with the hydraulic system, which was repaired under warranty. We headed south with it on Dec. 11th, and have been living in it ever since. While not quite the quality of the Montana High Country we had previously, it is very livable. As far as travel, we are over 1800 miles from home and have had almost no problems. The closet rod in the bedroom fell down -- it was only attached through thin veneer. Of course, we had clothes hanging to last us a variety of seasons as we are away from home for five months. We really love the hydraulic leveling system because it makes setup a breeze. (Took a little while to figure it out though!) The living room TV is larger than any of the TVs at our homel and is very clear. We have a king-sized bed at home and are happy to have one in our RV as well. We usually swap out our mattress, but this one is surprisingly comfortable! We also love not having carpet in most of the living room, but wish there was even less carpet! With pets, it's hard to keep floors clean.Re: South Padre Island, TXAndy Bowie is basically a parking lot without much space between the sites. Isla Blanca has a little more space between sites and some grass. If you look on Google Earth, you'll be able to see there's quite a difference.Re: Portland ME. Parking a duallyStick to the paid lots and you'll be okay. Streets are definitely too narrow for parking, some are even difficult just to get through!Re: Maine VacationYarmouth, Maine has the world's largest globe -- Eartha. It is a fun stop, especially with kids, but won't take long. L.L. Bean is an interesting stop. JoyceCampgrounds Near DC MetroI would like to spend a couple of days visiting Washington, D.C. on our way home from Florida. What is a good campground near a Metro station?Re: going out to eatWe have a fifth wheel trailer -- we eat out a LOT! Being retired, we don't need to travel long hours, so we can easily settle in and head out to explore.Re: Rock Crusher Canyon RV ResortWe stayed there a few days in late March. We loved the park - great pool, open every day. Nice, rural setting. The park is beautifully well kept and they had a good activity list for snowbirds. However, we love the beach and the coastline near there isn't conducive to beaches. We also love a great variety of restaurants, and just didn't find that many options.Re: Florida Help!!!!Christmas RV Park may have some sites left. The longer you stay, the cheaper the rates. Christmas is between Titusville and Orlando. It's about 35 minutes from Cape Canaveral National Seashore, which is beautiful! Other area attractions include Cocoa Beach (35 miles), numerous restaurants (including our favorite, Victorio's), bicycle paths, huge flea markets, etc. The RV park has a heated pool (open when outdoor temps are above 70) and all sorts of activities. Daytona is an hour northeast -- you can tour the raceway. There are several historic lighthouses you can visit. St. Augustine is a day trip -- less than a two hour drive. There you can visit the Fountain of Youth (yucky sulphur water, but a neat place), Fort Matanzaro, Castillo de San Marcos, etc. Another day trip is Clearwater Beach. On the way there we stopped at the Russell Stover Chocolate outlet. As for temperatures, February 2017 was beautiful! Every single day was between 70 and 86 degrees. Nights are cool, and the RV cools down nicely for sleeping. Lots of sunshine and gorgeous days. On the flip side, the winter of 2016 was not as nice. We love the area and this will be our third winter there! Come on down!Re: Winter Garden, Fl.The bicycle trail doesn't just run through Winter Garden. It runs across a large part of Florida. Some of it is woodsy, some of it goes dead center through the cities. Winter Garden would not be my choice, either.
