The Hall County Park (River Forks) is open until December 31....Shoal Creek Campground is open year-round (run by Lanier Islands)......JenniferRe: Old Federal on Lake LanierBears Den...We'll be going in a couple of weeks, weather permitting. If we go, I will try my best to take pictures of some of the sites mentioned and will post them. Thanks, JenniferRe: Old Federal on Lake LanierBears Den....When do you plan on coming ? Old Federal is very popular and fills up quickly. I make our reservations pretty well in advance. We camp at Old Federal a lot so I am familiar with the sites. Most will accomodate a 30 ft. TT, some sites have shade others do not. If having shade is important to you, I recommend sites #64, #65, #66 or #67 (#68 is a little short)...or as mentioned, the sites behind those also have nice water views and are shaded, #71 thru #75..these are all nice sites. We have camped at #65 many times...We also love #69 and #70 on same loop, excellent views but no shade and can get very windy out on the point. If shade is not important to you, the sites we have camped at numerous times are #44, #45, #60 and #61.....#61 does have a nice beach area, but keep in mind the beach isn't only for that site, people come to that beach to swim and park their boats, so it's not like you have it to yourself....the camp pad is a good ways from the beach so we've never been bothered by people down there having fun. #41, #42, and #43 are also nice sites.....We mostly stay at #44 or #45. If you look at the pictures on recreation.gov, some of these pictures are not current. For example, pictures of #44 or #45 show steps going down to the camp pad. They have raised the camp pads to be level with the driveway..nice improvement for having room for chairs under your awning, and not having to go down stairs for table, fire ring, etc. Hope this helps you narrow it down a bit....JenniferRe: Bald Ridge Park Lake Lanier, GA To let the actions of one person at one COE campground sour you on all COE campgrounds is shortsighted. We have found that COE campgrounds are well-maintained and with the Senior Pass discount are bargains. I agree.....We just camped last weekend at Duckett Mill COE on Lake Lanier and the camp hosts were as friendly as could be....we had the same experience at Old Federal in May...very friendly hosts...we have never had an unfriendly host at any COE park. Haven't been to Bald Ridge in a few years though. JenniferRe: Chewy or Crispy?Thin and CrispyRe: I forgot which TT I liked!Glad you found it...I think it is a nice floorplan and a sharp looking camper ! JenniferRe: I forgot which TT I liked! Was it possibly the "Keystone Passport Elite 23RB" ?? It's 25'11 and has the bar stools at the counter and no dinette. Has a lot of counter space too. JenniferRe: Older vs Newer Roo 21SSWe have the same floorplan and my very favorite feature is the super deep slideout with all windows in the slideout...I wouldn't have one without the windows in the slide. Also, after having both a HTT with bungees/poles and permanent attached tent, the permanent attached is easier/quicker, nice feature. I'm a tall lady at 5'10", husband is 6'1" and neither of us have trouble closing the bathroom door when on the toilet...not an issue, we spend very little time on the toilet....lots of time in the "living room" so the floorspace there is much more important to us. JenniferRe: GA State Parks charge fee for parking pass with campsiteWe have visited almost every GA State Park. The parks we have been to have signs posted all through the park about the entrance fee. They have always collected it from us up front, though. We have a seasonal pass now and don't have to pay the fee, however we choose to still pay it many times because we love our GA State Parks and like to help support the park system. JenniferRe: Jekyll Island for labor dayThe lighthouse is in the village on St. Simons Island, which is only a few minutes away from Jekyll. We love walking around the village, pier and lighthouse and think the best restaurants are on St Simons. If you enjoy history, I recommend visiting Fort Frederica on St. Simons...the huge live oaks draped in spanish moss are majestic. If you stop at the visitor's center as soon as you get on the causeway, they'll give you a map so you can see what all is there. On Jekyll, one of our favorite things to do is walk or bicycle through the Historic District....so beautiful and full of interesting history. Also enjoy going to Clam Creek, Pier and Driftwood Beach, which is right across from the campground. We almost always see horses on the beach. If you have bikes, take them...Jekyll Island is excellent for riding bikes. Jennifer
