Do any of you know a good online website targeted to truck campers that allows classified? I obviously know about Craigslist and Ebay. Thanks, MartyRe: Truck Camper Insurancethanks everyone. Will definitely call Progressive for a quote tomorrow on a stand alone policy. Sounds like I am definitely paying too much.Truck Camper InsuranceSorry if this is a common topic, but I did a search and did not find anything. I'm curious to hear about your insurance coverage on your truck camper. My previous auto insurance company, The Traveler's said I just needed a rider on my truck as part of my auto policy to cover my camper. If the camper was being carried on my truck it was covered, and parked at home, covered under my homeowner's policy. So, my total insurance was very inexpensive. Then I switched to Allstate and they told me the above was not true and that it needed to be added to my auto policy individually, not just as a rider on my truck. I have a 2013 Lance 1050S and this is costing me about $450 per year here in the state of Texas. Wondering why I got different stories from different agents/companies and how that compares with some of you? Thanks.Re: Is there any financial advantage for buying out of state kcmoedoe wrote: Texas will require sales tax to be paid when you register the vehicle. They will charge it on the actual sales price if it is from a dealer. If you purchase from an individual they will use a valuation chart to determine the value. That is to keep you and a seller from a wink wink, nod nod, paperwork showing the purchase price of a $100,000 rig as being $50.00. Your only advantage to an out of state purchase is if you can find the rig you want at a price that is better than what you can get in state, including the costs to go get it and bring it back. If it is a new rig you also need to be aware that buying from an out of state dealer may earn you a lot of ill will at your local dealer when it comes to service. Unlike car dealers, they are not required to perform warranty work on makes they sell. They will often, at best, put you at the end of the line or, at worst, not service your rig at all. Not true. I have purchased 3 TC's, all out of state for the very reason OP says. Dealers in Texas won't negotiate much AND Texas does not register TC's, so no sales tax due when you get home. I bought 2 from an Arizona dealer and my most recent from a used dealer in California. Picked up the first one myself. Dealer met me in New Mexico so they didn't have to charge me AZ sales tax. The other 2 I used UShip and was very happy with both.Re: Shipping a Truck CamperBTW, I have used UShip both times. Works really good.Re: Shipping a Truck CamperI have shipped 2. Both were carried in a pickup truck. Check out the shipper to make sure they are familiar with tie downs. This last one cost me $1,000 from California (LA) to Dallas area.Re: End of the Process: New Truck Camper Buzzcut1 wrote: Congratulations This thread is worthless without Photos Won't have the camper until Saturday. I'll post some pics then.End of the Process: New Truck CamperOn this past May 30th, I posted this: Here is the deal. I have an 08 GMC 2500 diesel and LOVE it. However, I would like to upgrade to a camper with a slide which I believe will need a one ton to carry. So, I believe I can sell my current truck for about $25-26K. I would love to buy a one ton for about $15k and use the other $10k to upgrade my camper (trading or selling my Outfitter also). Here is the entire thread: http://www.rv.net/forum/index.cfm/fuseaction/thread/tid/27740769.cfm I completed the circle today by paying for a 2013 Lance 1050S. It is completely loaded and in like new condition. Only 6 hours on the generator. I have taken lots of advice from others on this forum and I really appreciate it. I'm sure I will have more questions as I start using my new camper. Should have it this weekend. To summarize: I started with an 08 GMC 2500 HD Duramax short bed and a 2004 Outfitter Apex 8. I was very happy with both, but wanted a larger camper with a slide. In trading my truck (as documented in the previous thread) I got $7500. I sold my Outfitter for $10,500. So, I now have a 2011 Ford F350 SRW Long Bed with a 2013 Lance 1050S. I have made some upgrades to the truck to handle the weight. My total, incremental, out of pocket is approximately $12,000, which includes delivery of the Lance from California. Can't wait to get this rig on the road. MartyRe: Lance 1050S Towing QuestionPerfect, thanks. That shouldn't be a problem.
