I also only reached 16 mpg on the HW when I set cruise control at 64 mph also do you run 87 or 89? How much ethanol is in your gas in your state?Re: 6.4L Hemi/4.10 towing mpgI have the same truck. I pulled a 8000# TT at 61mph and only got 8.5 mpg:(Re: Hemi 6.4 or Cummins JIMNLIN wrote: I dont think the coils give up anything. IIRC the 2500 6.4L standard cab is 3900lbs payload and crew is 3600lbs. The 2500 Ram with the 6.4 6000 RAWR can't carry 3600 lbs or 3900 lbs in the bed of the truck. Both truck rear axle can weigh 2900-3000 lb which leaves 3000-3100 lbs before exceeding tires/wheels and rear spring pack (RAWR). The payload is a GVWR payload so that 3900 lbs will have to go over the trucks front and rear axles. If you look at the 2015 6.4 crew cab 4x4 Rear GAWR 6000 rear cure weight 2843 difference 3157 max payload 3280 Even if you put all the available payload on the rear axle you would you would only be over by about 100 pounds. I don't even think it is possible to place 100% of the load on just the rear axle. In this case I believe the payload and the axles are correctly matched.Re: Hemi 6.4 or Cummins TOOBOLD wrote: Does it have to be a brand new truck? Shop around for some used one's and you might be able find the diesel with all the bells and whistles for a good price. Then you can shop for your new trailer. I'm always afraid I buying someone problems. More so with a truck than a car...I have no idea what they have been hauling with it or abusing itRe: Hemi 6.4 or Cummins Highway 4x4 wrote: There is no perfect truck. So get the one that you want and makes you happy to own for what ever reason. ....... I don't want to look back and wish I would have...................... Great advice. Is that not the story of our lives...No matter what truck i get I'll always second guess my decision. The only way around that for me is to buy both trucks:)Re: Hemi 6.4 or Cummins markandkim wrote: My 1500 tows 8500lbs just fine. 10.5 mpg and I'm just a weekender like you. (10% of the time you say) But if you must upgrade, I will say if you are looking for a 2500, just get a 3500 instead. I think the coil springs on the 2500 are designed for a more comfortable ride. I don't think i would pull anything in the future that would exceed the 3200 payload on the 2500Re: Hemi 6.4 or Cummins elidodge@msn.com wrote: I have a 2013 Cummins,I love it,Is their a chance you might upgrade your trailer in a few yeard? Yes there is down the road i may buy a light weight 5th wheel but I would still stay under around around 10, 000 loaded. The gas would still give me 3200 pounds payload and ill get the 4:10 so I should be fine. Thanks for all the get responses!Hemi 6.4 or CumminsI have to upgrade my Ram 1500 for a new 2500. I have limited funds so I can either afford the Ram 6.4 Hemi STL with all the bells and whistle I want or the stripped down Tradesman with the cummins. I will use the truck for towing an 8000 lb trailer. I only use the truck for towing about 10% of the time and 90% of the time it is my daily driver. Yes I would love the diesel but if I get it I can't afford to add all the cool things I want like big 8.4 radio, rear window, remote start , aluminum wheels, Nav... So who has towed with the 6.4 and what are your experiences? What do you like about it? What is you MPG when towing? If it was you, would you get the fun extras with the gas engine or the stripped down diesel?Re: Winterizing pump hose attachment Bumpyroad wrote: patdrury wrote: You can also just add the antifreeze to the fresh water tank and pump from there. you can do that if you want to use/waste a bunch more gallons of AF and then have the problem of cleaning out the tank sufficiently. that is why they sell and installed on my motorhome a winterizing system. one and one half or so gallons of AF did the job. bumpy Actually it does not take any more antifreeze than the hose kit. Maybe a quart more but no big deal. I have a bypass kit on mine but I have to lift the bed and then an remove an access panel. I would rather dump a little more pink stuff in the fresh water tank and save the time and aggravationRe: Thinking of buying a Non-bunkhouse TT for Family of 4We just traded our bunkhouse in. The kids could not stand the low ceiling height in the bunks. Went with a rear living room model. Kids love it and only takes a few minutes to make up the couch. Now we have more livable space to use during the day.
