There are several things I am wondering: 1) Unwinterizing and winterizing is going to have to be done along the way. Anyone have tips on making this a seamless thing? Watch the weather on your return leg and winterize when you start getting close to freeze/sub-freeze temps. Once done, you're going to have to use public restrooms and so on. No more on board toilet use. swimmer_spe wrote: 2) How annoying are the 2 border patrols? Have you seen them really search an RV or not? Was stopped the first time we ever crossed into the USA at Buffalo. You'll be asked to vacate the RV and wait inside the secondary office area, usually near a large mirrored wall. I believe they are observing your demeanor while you're waiting for the "all clear, on your way". Stay cool, act normal (whatever that is), relax, and wait it out. If you've got nothing to hide, that is. swimmer_spe wrote: 3)Buying food. Can I bring stuff from Canada without issues? Can I bring stuff back to Canada without issues? Citrus going south is a no no. Search for lists of what's allowed on the CBP and/or CBSA websites before you go. There are usually no exceptions. You may also be asked if you "have anything to declare" or "anything coming in" with you. That usually means $10000 cash or equivalent/weapons/alcohol/tobacco. Don't forget the "no illegal drugs" warnings. The citrus can be a problem even though it is labeled as grown in Florida.Re: Snowbird Report Card pawatt wrote: 16th Winter in the Rio Grande Valley, This was probably the second coolist year out of the past 16. We had a very light frost once but not enough to damage our tropical plants except for the banana trees that are very tender, A good winter, we still love the Valley after 16 winters. Great friendly people both the locals and the Winter Texans. Great flea markets and very low cost of living. Tons of activities and Happy Hours. We are in South Palmview near Bentsen Rio Grande State Park and the World Birding Center. Lots of parks on Bentsen Palm Drive for every budget and we have room for youall, come on down. Did you move from Green Gate?Re: Winter MAY be endingNo place for birds to land here in Northern Ontario. Have gotten over 20 inches of snow in last couple of days with the night time temperatures at -18C -1F. I wish I knew were to find that **** ground hog that predicted this.Re: flordia snow birds heading north GordonThree wrote: Here in the great north of Michigan we're still seeing teens at night, low 30s during the day. I am happy to see more of the Sun lately. Here in Northern Ontario we have had a few days of brilliant sunshine but very cold at night.Re: RV park recommendation RGV for two weeks in April? After spending some time looking over campground options on Allstays and RVparkreviews, we're leaning towards Tropic Winds in Harlingen as it appears to be a good central location to explore the valley. Please feel free to advise if you think there may be a better option for us. And also, we'd appreciate any recommendations as to good restaraunts or sights to see in the area beyond those already offered up. I do recall one particular BBQ place in the area that we really enjoyed several years ago with my folks, but for the life of me, can't recall the name. I believe it had "Longhorn" in it somewhere, but not sure. It was in a fairly large standalone building, with a range of sauces that we'd purchase to take home. If anyone recognizes this, please pass it along. And then there's Pepe's. Hope it's still open. ?? Our thanks in advance. The Longhorn Steakhouse might be the one you are referring to. It is in San Benito just past the turn off to Fun N Sun RV Resort. Pepe's had a flood a few years back and is not open.Re: RV park recommendation RGV for two weeks in April? A great time of year for the Island and the Harlingen/San Benito area is even closer. Fun and Sun in San Benito is a big park with lots going on. Even at that time of year. Fun and Sun has every amenity that you could ask for but the shows and entertainment will have slowed down by the middle of April.Re: Merry Christmas pawatt wrote: Merry Christmas Snowbirds and Winter Texans. 76 degrees and sunshine here in deep South Texas. You are rubbing it in!Re: Youthful 55+ parks in Arizona B.O. Plenty wrote: I'm 72 and would like to find that place with younger people also. Lots of places have things that the old ladies like but not much for the guys. Not interested at all in a pot luck, square dancing, line dancing cards or going to the casino. I would enjoy, RC race cars, woodshop, Drones, off roading and even some interesting classes in computers or maybe ham radio. I'm old but not ready to quit. I keep looking but haven't had much luck yet.. B.O. You are describing Fun n Sun in San Benito, Texas.Re: zip code at gas pumpsThank you for the replies. Memory has been jogged. The method does not always work though.zip code at gas pumpsI know the answer to this question has come up before but have forgotten it. Being from Canada, I do not have a Zip Code to put in when it is requested at the gas pumps. I know there was a formula using the numbers from my postal code but cannot remember the formula. Would appreciate an update and a slap in the back of the head.
