All ActivityMost RecentMost LikesSolutionsRe: A little uncomfortable with my set up...Really the only thing that is going to make this "feel" the way you had probably hoped it would feel when towing, is a bigger truck. Sure you have the max tow and air bags and all that, but 31 foot trailers just don't tow the same as their shorter, lighter, brethren. Especially with a F150. From what you describe, I feel like you need more tongue weight, yet I also feel like you have a lot of tongue weight to begin with. The engines on the F150's are truly amazing with the power and ease they pull with, which can make you think you can pull just about anything, and well for the most part you probably can. But for how far, how safely, and how it "feels" is a whole different ballgame. And I wouldn't be surprised if you went smaller and still didn't care for it. It sounds like you have the trailer you want. Upgrade the truck. You wouldn't be the first nor the last to take a bath on the upgrade. It happens, probably more often than not. You can try the different hitch ideas, the different receiver ideas, all of that, and you might get close to happy. But then one day you will be just clearing the trees as a 18-wheeler rolls back in the other direction, it will sway, and you won't be happy again. I know how much these trucks cost and it sucks big time to take a hit, but either way your going to take one whether its 5000 on the truck upgrade or 3000 on a hitch and 2000 on LT tires. Or get the smaller unit and cross your fingers. Maybe you can test drive one or something? Seems odd, but its been a minute since I've been the dealer so I don't know if they would do this for you. Just my thoughts.Re: A picture is worth a thousand words!Hate watching those videos. I understand its to show how serious this kind of stuff is, but I feel bad that these folks never knew, or just chose to ignore things. Or got told bad information. I've rolled up on some aftermath before, thankfully nothing too serious, but I always wonder "why" to a multitude of things. Seems like there needs to be a safety class and some sort of certification.Re: Sirius XM PortabilityI was going to suggest signing up for the internet or phone part and then streaming or just using a headphone jack or bluetooth to your various radios. But I find the easiest way is to call them up at the renewal time and negotiate a cheaper package. The key here is to be nice but firm in not being able to afford the cost, especially for multiple vehicles and or some that are not used all the time, and be sure not to have a credit card or debit card tied to the account via online setup or any other way. I always request a paper billing and I always make a "one time payment". I've found that if you do it any other way, they automatically renew and charge you. I've even had them charge me after I thought I had removed my info off their website or just made a "one time payment" on the website. Now I do it over the phone, and never have an issue. When the "promotional rate" runs out, they will automatically renew you at the higher rate when they send you the paper bill, which typically comes after this renewal date. Thats when I call, explain that the cost is too much, and they start offering deals again. Once I get the one I want, then I make a one-time payment and its usually another 5 months for $25 deal. Sometimes I just get tired of it and cancel it all together. Doesn't take long for the "we want you back" promotional rates to start flooding the mailbox.Re: Tow vehicle too short of wheelbase???I'm guessing you have the friction sway bar and WDH as given to you by the dealer, nothing wrong with that, as thats what I use too. However, I would get a second sway bar to add to the other side. Its fairly inexpensive, and if you have some tools you can do it yourself. I tow with a 2007 tahoe. While I don't have the size of the trailer you have, adding the second sway bar helped noticeably. In your case it may not help as much, but I'd give it a shot, unless your just looking for confirmation to upgrade the tow vehicle.Re: Which is the right move in a split second decision? From everything I've been told and have read, accelerating only makes it sway more, not less. I've never had sway get out of control so I cannot comment on that, but in situations where I felt the sway was uncomfortable, I've taken my foot off the gas and let everything slow down, and or applied the brake control manually.Kampvilla RV Park, Bear Lake Michigan (Manistee county)Has anyone been here? It seems to get good reviews but all I see is good reviews, which makes me nervous. Additionally it is located right next a mobile home park, and its in the middle of nowhere, which doesn't exactly alleviate my nervousness. This would be our last trip of the year (middle october) and also javascript:;a birthday party for my father who is turning 80 (don't ask why we are camping lol). It was just a suggestion, as my choices so far were Traverse City KOA, or Timber Ridge which is also near Traverse City. It was thought this location might be a bit warmer so late in the season but it is also closer to Lake Michigan, which would mean I would expect the opposite. Part of our group is planning to rent a "park model" I guess which given its location to the mobile home park, I would assume its just a mobile home. Thoughts? Anyone have an experience here?Re: Satellite Dish question. The pay as you go billing is very strange. First I did not know that you could "stop" in the middle of a month. So for last year, we would just activate a "month" and then it is supposed to turn off automatically at the end of the month. However, when they bill it, it bills for the following month, until it sees you didn't use it and it "catches up" and removes the month you didn't use. In the meantime, you get bills for these months you didn't use and then the past due bills when you don't pay them. Like I said, eventually it catches up and they remove them but I did kind of find it a real pita to deal with. I'll have to look into this turning it off on the website thing and back on, since at most we might use it for a solid week, followed by a couple weeks of not using it, etc.Re: ASUS RT-AC66R RouterYa we have a all in one hp wifi unit. I think its a 8600 series one. We had a 8400 series one and i went to costco to buy all the inks it needed one day. It also needed a printhead but we were dealing with that. So the cost of the inks was approaching $85 or so I think, and cheap knockoff printheads were like $25? So I'm thinking for $100 I could get this one back up to snuff...when I see the 8600 series one on sale for I think $165? So I just bought a new one lol. Bonus is that I can print right from my phone without any special app or anything. For instance though, the HP 8630 is going for $199.99 at office depot. The 8610 is going for $89.99. If you get the combo pack for your c4640 that comes with a 60XL (so the larger black ink) and the normal sized color cartridge it is $75.49. But, the reality is the 4640 has a better optical scanner I believe, and no auto document feeder to make it larger, so for compactness and movability, the one you have is likely a better choice. They do also make newer ones like yours, but I didn't have time to compare resolutions. I'm out of the picture scanner game anymore. Todays cameras are so good, at least for me, I don't have any reason to scan in pics to touch them up hardly ever.Re: ASUS RT-AC66R RouterHere I thought those were only for network storage devices... If it were me I'd look into upgrading the printer though, the next time you need to buy ink. Seems new ink and/or new print heads (if your printers are replacable) cost more than a new printer itself sometimes. Wifi printing is nice though....can put that sucker wherever ya want to. :)Re: New travel trailer and tow vehicle800 lb of tongue weight seems a bit much. I have a bigger trailer and probably more gear, and mine is I think about 7, wdh included.
