We moved to South Dakota where the terrain and size of the fields requires larger groups and different methods. Never quite got accustomed to it. Commercial hunting was becoming prominent when we moved back to Iowa 30 years ago, and I understand it's even more so now. Very difficult to find private land that hasn't been leased. My Brother and I along with a few other's used to hunt birds in Iowa every year... always the Friday after Opening Day. There were a group of farmers around Cosgrove who put on the hunt. Over the years we became very close with these gentlemen, and we could hunt the ground anytime we wanted.... however 2 things happened, Iowa had a drought, and the following year the bird-count was real low, and that seemed to happen about the same time we became old... LOL and just couldn't walk the distances we used too... We still hunt every Opening Day in Ohio, and always with Dogs! My brother had a good Britney, and I had a good Vizsla... We always had SD on our bucket-list, however I don't think we could justify the cost since we can't walk those distances anymore. Nice subject, I am enjoying reading all of the posts! We decided to make our typical reservations for Florida last year when we left, and we always leave Ohio in mid-January, so we have a little time yet, so We will make our decision at that time I guess? If I end up loosing my deposits and pre-payments... well I've wasted money before! hahaha... I just hope things settle down some in the next few months! Good Luck to everyone and Safe Travels!!! We leave Ohio in January for Florida also... and pretty much do as everyone mentioned above, however we do use our 5th Wheel the entire trip. We watch the weather close before leaving to not run in snow or ice. We put a full day of driving the 1st day. We like above bring water with us for brushing teeth and coffee. We normally spend the night at a Flying J, which has RV designated parking areas. We heat with our propane furnace and sleep in the 5th Wheel. In the morning if temperatures are above 30, we will un-winterize that morning at the Flying J... they have freshwater, sewer dump and propane right there. I certainly don't need fancy, just clean & safe area is what we are looking for, plus a closer drive to and from our daughters house in Winter Park. Thanks for the suggestion! Our Daughter lives in Winter Park, Florida, and we always stay at Orange Blossom KOA in Apopka.... I was wondering is anyone would have a recommendation for a park closer to Winter Park? We spend at a minimum of 45 min each way driving to her house each day, so 1-1/2 hours round trip... We spend around 1 week in the area before heading to Ft. Myers.... We really don’t use the amenities, but certainly want a safe, clean park. Any suggestions anyone would have would be appreciated. Thanks in advance! RVman / John2.2KViews0likes6Comments
