Word of Warning for all Guards!!! Make sure that you set up all connections to your RV...the set up company hooked their Fresh water hose to our Black Tank Clean out connector instead of the Fresh Water Tank inlet, and let the 45 lbs of pressure run. Needless to say, our Black Tank Blew the seems apart the the flood ensued. We are waiting for Forest River to get back to the RV Dealership that will be repairing/replacing the tanks, insulation, etc. Not sure how that happened. I park and level the RV and do all the hookups. I have not heard of it being done any other way. When you go to a campground don't you do your own hookups? The oil patch should not be any different. I also conduct a daily check of all the hookups and the RV in general at least daily. I guess we/you learned a lesson.Re: Information Discussion for Gate Guards waywardwinds wrote: I did want to ask somthing we work for timekeepers we get 250 gal. of water a week. that just barely enough it seems. is this the norm? we have a washer and dryer but can't use it just not enough water for it. Think outside the box and find out who services the rig. Once we "bribed" the water company driver with some brownies and cookies we never had to worry about water again.Re: Information Discussion for Gate Guards wciim wrote: Then we will gate guard in the winter and play in the summer. After a year and a half on gates that is just what we plan to do-heading out just before Memorial day for a few weeks off. We were looking at rotating between a campground gig and working a gate; but the pay and commitment they're looking for is not for us.Re: Information Discussion for Gate Guards Southern Nights wrote: Lots of information here on most of the companies but nothing on Primo and only one or two for J&G or Swift. Anyone have information they can share on well they service their guards? We have worked for J and G for over a year. Great pay and good people to work for.Re: Information Discussion for Gate Guards waywardwinds wrote: then the water tank hose came off and pumped it dry. didn't know it till the next day because of all the mud from the storm. Highly recommend you use your external pump and fill your internal water tank as needed; shutting off the valve to the big tank the rest of the time. IF you have internal tanks.Re: Information Discussion for Gate Guards klg3153 wrote: It is a dirty ,hot job but it did pay well, We are not going to do it again in Texas Exceed the field superintendents expectations and keep the land owner happy and you'll get better gates and stay working. You'll also make more which makes the dust, mud and dry skin tolerable.Re: Information Discussion for Gate Guards WagginTailsRV wrote: For those who are working gates now and have motor homes, how do you keep your propane tank filled? It's problematic and requires pre-planning. We fill when we get below or near a half tank. There is a large facility outside of Karnes City and near Von Ormy. You have to search around on the net and ask the locals. We get about a year of use out of our internal tank.Re: Information Discussion for Gate Guards rhianna wrote: Gatekeeper; We finally left the gate. The reasons we left are twofold. The dust was killing us. We were positioned just 20' from a dirt road that was the route to at least 4 other wells and the dust was so bad that we were having a hard time breathing. Unfortunately that is part and parcel of gate guarding. We literally shovel the motorhome out periodically. Dust and grime covers everything within 12 hours or less. My DW spent a couple of thousand dollars getting treated for breathing issues during the summer. There were days here where you could not see more than about 15-20 feet in front of you. Our entreaties to various officials of both the exploration and drilling companies fell on deaf ears. OCCASIONALLY we would get watered down. It is better now, but breathing and visibility are still a problem. We need the job and don't know anyone who pays as much so we just "cowboy up".Re: Information Discussion for Gate Guards Mfar1234 wrote: Still stacked up? Looking to head that way before x-mas.... I would call ahead and make sure a gate is available. Rumor has it that things might pick up after New Years.Re: Information Discussion for Gate Guards waywardwinds wrote: i read all 109 pages and leaned alot about fulltimeing and gate gaud work and now we have contacted sitewatch kc and trinty and others not heard much back from any of them yet though john and carol and one ugly lab 2001 holliday rambler moho Try D.A.D.S 210-844-7393 and D&G Enterprise 817-291-2737 Don't know if they have a gate, but get your name out there
