Also, we stay at Yosemite Pines RV Park when we can't get reservations inside the park. Don't know about fishing though. Then there's Petaluma KOA, just north of SF.Re: Suggestions for spots in Northern California - N of EurekaWe like the KOA in Crescent City as well as Harris Beach State Park in Brookings.Re: Brookings OR/Redwood CA - April 2014 to stay ?We like the KOA in Crescent City and also Harris Beach State Park in Brookings. Both have FHU's.Re: Oregon State Park Site Restrictions?Thank you, Old-Biscuit, I called every number but that one, of course. Got through on the third call and the answer was, you can put a tent on a site that already has an RV in it, if it'll fit. They have a "cheat sheet" where they listed what size tent will fit on a particular site. I just need to let her know what site(s) I'm interested in and how big the tent is. Thanks again!Oregon State Park Site Restrictions? We are looking at making reservations at Harris Beach State Park in Brookings for a family trip. We have 5er's but the older kids want to stay outside in a tent. Are there any restrictions with regards to having an RV and a tent on a single site? Thank you!Re: trip planning help to yosemite & redwoods!!We go to Yosemite NP annually and recommend staying in the valley if possible, there are campgrounds outside the gate on HWY 140 & HWY 120 if you can't get reservations in the park. We just did our first trip to Redwood NP this June. It was pretty awesome! I posted about our trip and an RV.net member, sdianel made this comment... "While in Crescent City: Most beautiful drive!! Howland Hill Road Mostly unpaved; Motorhomes/RVs and trailers not advised. Distance & Duration: 10 miles, one way (from Crescent City, Calif. to junction with U.S. 199 near Hiouchi, Calif.); 45 minutes. Directions: From Crescent City, Calif.: drive south 1 mile on U.S. 101 and turn left (east-northeast) onto Elk Valley Road; continue 1 mile and turn right (east) onto Howland Hill Road; after ~1½ miles the road becomes unpaved as it enters Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park; continue another 5½ miles on Howland Hill Road until it becomes Douglas Park Road (paved); after ~1½ miles turn left onto South Fork Road; after ½ mile South Fork Road junctions with U.S. 199 just east of Hiouchi, Calif. Description: Just a couple miles west of Crescent City, an unpaved stretch of Howland Hill Road offers motorists an intimate encounter with the towering old-growth redwoods in Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park. Numerous pull-outs and trailheads along the way, including the Boy Scout Tree Trail and Stout Grove. " I HIGHLY recommend the Howland Hill Road drive. It is absolutely breathtaking! When it turns into a dirt road it gets narrow, but there are a lot of turnouts. We drove our TV and had no issues. Also, we stayed at Crescent City KOA. It was fabulous! Great customer service, small campground, simple, well kept, beautiful walks through the Redwoods on the property. We had a great pull-thru site, FHU. We also went to Gold Bluffs Beach in Prairie Creek Redwoods SP. You have to drive another dirt road to get there, pretty drive, but not as pretty as Howland Hill Rd., we enjoyed the beach. We also enjoyed a drive up through the southern Oregon coast. Beautiful drive, more great beaches.Re: RV Parks in Santa Rosa, CA clubhouse wrote: It's a little south, but I have always heard great things about the Petaluma KOA. x2 - We've stayed here many times during peak camping season and off season. The campground is pretty quiet off season. Mostly full-timers during the winter.Re: where to stay on roadtrip LA to medocino, RV.We used to go to Gualala River Redwood Park every 4th of July, but have not gone in the last several years. It was great when we went, but have noticed mixed reviews in the last few years. The campground is in a Redwood grove, we always stayed in their river view sites. They have W/E hook-ups.Re: Yosemite Pines RV Park and High Sierra RV Park J-mans Dad wrote: Yosemite Pines can be tight depending on where your site is. The upper area toward the back seemed to have bigger sites. Granted the roads were rustic (dusty), the pool was clean, the playground for the kids were well done, petting zoo area for the kids and the on-site gold mine were a novelty. If you have kids, this would be the place to stay at. Gotta realize these aren't 5 star destination resorts. We stayed at those places to spend most of our time in Yosemite, not in camp. X2Re: Grand Teton - Yellowstone Visit GuidanceWe went to Yellowstone last year and stayed at Fishing Bridge in Yellowstone and Colter Bay RV Park in the Tetons. We really didn't spend much time in the campsite in Yellowstone so it didn't matter that it was essentially a parking lot for RV's (we did appreciate the FHU's). Colter Bay RV park is a beautiful campground, IMO, we added days on to our Teton stay we liked the campground so much, though I would agree, I would add a day or two to Yellowstone. You can see the Tetons in 2 days. Also, I would consider renting a car from a town close by, (Make sure it's not Jackson though, everything is 5 times the price there.) driving an RV around Yellowstone might be challenging. They have parking for RV's at the sights, you just have to be lucky enough to get one.
