The sale is treated like a car sale, you get a bill of sale, the RV is registered in AZ and you get a temporary registration. A few weeks later they mail you the pink slip. When you register an out of state trailer in CA, they require an inspection at the DMV office to validate the VIN against what's listed on the pink slip.(they define RV's as trailers) You have to pay the difference between the CA and AZ sales tax, which is significant; even though you bought it in AZ. Ripoff! You also have to pay for registration fees. I had to write a check to the DMV for about $850, even though the purchase price was only $24,000. My advice is to declare a lower price than you actually paid. They don't require a bill of sale to validate and they know jack about RV values. It will save you hundreds of dollars in both sales tax and registration fee, since they are both driven off of the purchase price.Re: 299 in Northern California, Trinity RiverDon't know what you will ultimately decide to do, but I've been fishing the Trinity for 35 years for the Fall salmon run and have stayed at almost all of the campgrounds alongside 299 between Lewiston and Burnt Ranch. They are rarely full and a lot of them to choose from. Some of the campgrounds don't have a lot of room to navigate the backing in of a trailer and I don't recall seeing more than a handful of pull throughs. You just have to take a drive through them to take a look. Some of the campgrounds have no working water supply, so check it out before you get setup.Re: Max length allowed at Glacier NPThanks for all of the great information and links to other resources. I plan to call the park and talk to a ranger, but you guys have helped focus on the campgrounds that might be best for me to look at. I was also considering the option of a mixed use RV park located just outside the entrance. It's called Glacier Campground. Anyone have any experience with this place. It looks pretty good online.Max length allowed at Glacier NPI've checked the Glacier website for what's allowed in the different campgrounds and it states 35' combined truck & trailer. I'm pulling a 31' 5ver and with the truck, am longer than that. Does anyone have any experience as to how strict they are with that total length? Is it an issue of the road curves being too sharp to make turns, or maybe just an arbitrary policy on length that has some wiggle room. Sure would like to head up there, but not if I can't get in.Re: Fifth wheel backingAll of this backing advice is great, but get yourself a wireless backup camera. I have one from TADI Brothers that gives me a 120 degree view, with no fisheye effect. And it color hi-res with night vision. It just mounts to the license plate frame and has backup lines on the monitor, just like my F250. The added benefit is that you can leave it on when your rolling down the road to see what's going on behind you. Helps a lot to determine safe lane changes. Yeah, it's a few hundred bucks, but worth every penny. Also reduces the "pissed of" mood and shattering of the marital bliss that comes with a painful backing experience.
