Last year we travelled 22,500 miles in 5 months (150 miles/day) Have a look at some of our photos here: Appetizer - 5 minutes The whole experience - 30 minutes (including subtitles and maps) Here is a map of our tour from Baltimore to Halifax Enjoy PeterRe: permanent GPS track recording Bucky Badger wrote: The Spot doesn't like to follow the exact route you take...it only does straight lines...were you happy with the performance of it, or do you wish it was more accurate? I'm totally happy with SPOT. It cannot follow the exact route, as it only sends a message every 5 minutes. But that's ok. If you look back at your trip, you get the information you need. I never wanted to know every single turn. And when it comes to geocoding of photos, every place where we stropped the RV and got out to take photos, we have a very precise locations (as long as the stop was 5 minutes or longer). So if you take a closer look at Joliet, you can see the exact parking lot that we used to take the photo of the Blues Brothers (2:38 in http://youtu.be/0jvqQ5Eteek ) Peter Re: permanent GPS track recordingsorry, I didn't keep my promise and post the link at the beginning of our trip. Now our trips is over, but you can still look at our track: http://djc5.de We covered 22,000 miles in 150 days. So refilling isn't an issue any more. When I arrive in the states, I will look for someone who can help me to install any kind of propane canister in my small gas-locker, which is only 13 inches tall, diameter 8 inches. I will stay for 18 weeks, but I don't use the stove every day. 5 lbs should be enough for the entire trip. I would buy 10 Coleman cylinders with 16.4 oz each, but with all the adapters they do not fit in my locker :-( I know the campingworld stores. Are there other places where I should ask? I start at Baltimore, MD. PeterRe: filling butane cylinderThanks to all for your answers. Tomorrow I will bring my RV to the harbor of Antwerpen (Belgium). I'm not sure, but I guess that all RV stoves are good for propane. Do you think I need a different regulator? My GOK EN61 should work with propane or butane at a pressure of max 16 bar = 232 psi Peterfilling butane cylinderHi, I will visit the USA soon with my own RV. My gas canister must be empty while the RV is being shipped. Now I need to know, where I can have it refilled. As my RV uses gas only for the stove, the canister is very small. It carries 6 lbs of BUTANE gas. The empty bottle weighs 8.2 lbs. In Germany I bought an adpter that is made for filling propane in the US. But I need to fill it with BUTANE! Is there any place in the eastern states (I start in Baltimore), where butane can be filled? Peter Gas cylinder in gasproof plastic box: 6 lbs cylinder with US filling adapter attached Re: permanent GPS track recordingFinally, I bought a SPOT Gen3 I will post the link to my map, as soon as I start my journey :-) PeterRe: permanent GPS track recordingHi Sue, hi Murray, which SPOT units do you own? I am thinking that SPOT trace could be the right one for me. It comes with a "Line power with a 5v USB connection (NOT waterproof) – included". Will the standard service (update every 5 minutes) for 10$/month (100$/year) be good? I would the unit run in the "asset has been stolen"-mode for my entire vacation (4 months). PeterRe: permanent GPS track recording sue.t wrote: Our SPOT unit records directly to a webpage that can be seen by anyone with whom I share the URL Hi Sue, can you send me such an URL? I would like to take a look. sue.t wrote: Only maintenance is changing batteries and turning it on again. Can't it be connected to 12V permanently to let it run all year long? Regards Peter
