If your current mirrors have thermometer in them, make sure new mirrors do as well. Otherwise check engine light will come on when you put the new mirrors in.Re: Newbie Tow Vehicle HelpSome on here will tell you it can be done, however I just traded my 1500 up to a 2500. It is simply too much trailer.Re: How rigid is payload numberJust traded my '13 RAM 1500 with 20K on a '15 2500 for the same issue. I never took it to the scales to get actual measurements, but I am fairly certain I was in the 5-600lbs overweight range. The 1500 with 5.7 has plenty of engine power to pull, but you really feel the weight on the lighter rear coils. Spoon up above is right on with numbers. Would definitely consider lighter trailer or more truck.Re: Towing CapacityOne thing to remember too is that the RAM 2500 5.7 HEMI has a GVWR of 9,000 lbs. The 6.4 HEMI and CTD are at 10,000 lbs.Re: 2015 Prime Time Tracer Air 250 Reviews or comparable TTI know I posted this before on one of your threads, but have you looked at a Jayco 23MB. Dry weight is 4200 lbs. It has the oversized bunks in the back. In the front is a murphy bed that folds out over the top of the couch at night. Literally can be done with one hand. As a starter camper it is a solid unit and was on my short list for our first purchase this past fall.Re: Weight Capacity HELP. GVWR??? 2008 GMC Yukon Denali XL 2WDx2 on what Gdetrailer just said. Might want to take a look at the Jayco Jay Flight 23MB. Unloaded Vehicle Weight is 4200 lbs. Nice starter unit.Re: 1/2 ton buyer's log, day 1 ib516 wrote: Skelshy wrote: 2014 F-150 FX4 supercrew 3.6 ecoboost I was initially hoping for a good deal on a '14 with the turbo engine. The model I looked at was well optioned up with 302A, leather and navigation. Interior is pretty utilitarian, but it works. Funny how a lot of them still come with a tiny 4 in screen. Drives nice though, I have always preferred turbo engines, and this one definitely delivered. Road noise was fairly muted. Checked the door label and payload was about 1150 lbs. I stopped looking at 2014 F150s at this point as most of the models left on lots around here are the same FX4s. 2014 Ram 1500 Laramie crew 5ft bed V8 Loved the two tone paint and found one locally that even had tow mirrors. Was advertised at 49k MSRP and 41k sales price. I thought it had a very classy interior, best of the big three. The 8in touch screen was super responsive and controls laid out logically. Steering wheel does not telescope. The backseat storage options are genius and I appreciate the subwoofer. Really liked the layout of the instrument cluster and there's another giant screen in there. Never liked the baroque front, but the side profile and rear looks good. Cruising on the freeway, there was noticeable engine noise at a fairly low frequency that seemed to resonate. I have had grippier brakes. Payload was 1250 lbs with a 7700 lbs tow rating. The low frequency noise you heard was likely the 4 cyl mode engaged. That's what it sounds like in that mode. That is what I was thinking…MDS kicking in and out. One of the things I least appreciate about my 2500. If I am driving in the city I usually use the +/- button on the gear selector to set at 5. This shuts off the MDS temporarily.Re: Why all the hate on 1/2 ton tvs goducks10 wrote: The majority of 1/2 tons sold have relatively low payloads. There in lies the problem. Low payload and high tow ratings. Shop your nearest truck store and look at CCC door labels. Almost impossible to find upper end CCC trucks. Buyers are getting a dumbed down version of what's being advertised on tv. Couple all that with the excitement of looking at trailers and it's easy to see why 1/2 ton owners are the ones having the most towing issues. It's pretty common for RV shoppers to start looking for a certain size trailer and then end up with something bigger. Go to any RV dealer or RV show and that smaller lower priced trailer just doesn't seem all that appealing after looking at the larger more expensive ones. Now the conundrum appears. That 1/2 ton truck that seemed like the latest and greatest is now not adequate for that new larger than anticipated trailer. We can read about that situation all day long on any RV site. It's really more of a newbie issue IMO. There's plenty of 1/2 ton owners that know exactly what's going on and have matched their combo correctly. You can't lump them all into one category. Guilty as charged...Re: Why all the hate on 1/2 ton tvsAm I really safer? Notice I said, "I will be safely inside the parameters" i.e. operating safely inside the weight and loading parameters set by the manufactures. Am I safer from my own mistakes/stupidity, other drivers' mistakes/stupidity, or other events outside of my control (like a 50mph crosswind)…obviously not. I am, however imho, safer from catastrophic mechanical failures that could be caused by operating outside those same design parameters. Again, it all goes back to how you are comfortable operating. I was not comfortable towing what I had with a 1500 so I moved up to a 2500. Doesn't mean I vilify anyone for choosing not to under the same circumstances.Re: Why all the hate on 1/2 ton tvsThese weight discussions are exhausting...being a newbie the issue of weight is very confusing. The manufacture tells you one thing to sell the truck. The RV dealer tells you another to sell the trailer. The only absolutes in this discussion seem to be 1) your tv has a weight limit developed with safety in mind. 2) your TT also has a weight limit so that it can be operated safely. 3) whether you, as the owner of both the tv and tt, choose to go inside or outside those limits is entirely up to you. For myself, having tried to tow my 6600 lbs TT with a 1/2 ton a few times, I decided I would be more comfortable stepping up to a 3/4 ton. I know I will be safely inside the parameters on both the tv and tt. Having that peace of mind with a wife and two small children riding along is worth it to me.
