I have been a Glamis regular for over 30 years and what you described has never occurred. I offroad with a circle of friends that can number as many as 60 large 5th wheel toy haulers and motorhomes pulling large box trailers. The only issues with CHP and local LEOs have been length infractions. No one I know of has ever been cited or checked for weight. We hear from time to time the wives tales of weight checkpoints but they are just rumors that are never proven true. olddesertriderRe: Ford F250 6.2L V8Some erroneous info here. California DOES NOT check private RV towing weights. You do not go thru scales in CA. They are for commercial trucks only checking big rigs for Fed DOT legal weights. Have been towing all manner of trailers and trucks for over 40 years. Have been stopped for other reasons but NEVER checked for weight. That said, towing laws state if towing rig appears unsafe it can be removed from highway usage at the discretion of the LEO (CHP). olddesertrider Note; You will find at the few offroading areas in CA (especially the Glamis dunes) numerous rigs that are borderline overloaded with a few very overloaded and they are never checked by the LEOs. And there are very few accidents with these rigs and when they do happen it usually involves alcohol.Re: 2015 Ford Expedition towing Northwood Snow River 234 RBS. If extra money can be found for your truck purchase there is a company that converts new Ford crew cab 3/4 ton and 1 ton pickups into 7 and 10 passenger Excursions so they can be equipped with the 6.7 diesel and have the towing capability of the 1 ton Super Duty. Then you wouldn't have to worry about trailer weight as much. http://www.customautosbytim.com/index.html olddesertriderRe: aux fuel tank install. I use a loud kitchen timer that beeps for a minute when time is up so it is hard to ignore. Clips onto visor when in use. Under 10 bucks and no wiring. Have never overfilled main tank in 13 years of use on 3 different trucks. olddesertriderRe: AUX DIESEL TANK TRANSFER PUMPI use a simple kitchen cooking timer to time the aux tank pump on and off cycle. Do the initial main tank fill in your driveway at home to get a baseline for timing your particular tank setup. Works like a charm and so very cheap!!! olddesertriderRe: K & N filter change. Yet again for the second time, per actual long term offroad use the K&Ns I have used needed prefilters to keep dirt out of the intake manifolds and the oiled gauze sagged and broke apart over time due to vibration and rough dirt road usage. Oiled foam will not break down and sag with rough usage although they do wear with repeated washings and need periodic replacement but their filtering efficiency is second to none. Outerwears recommended on all offroad filtering applications.YMMV olddesertriderRe: K & N filter change.Re: K & N filter change. Used K&N filters for 10 years on my offroad vehicles. The K&Ns needed a pre-filter which was womens panty hose wrapped around the filter to prevent clogging up too soon due to dirts affinity to oil. That common backyard fix spawned a whole new company just making pre filters, first for K&Ns then for other filters. Outerwears pre filters. Then determined vibration and rough action of offroading broke down oiled gauze over time. Now for the last 25 years I have used oiled foam filters with outerwears pre filters. This has proved to be the longest lasting and best compromise of air filtering and performance. Outerwears shakes off the dirt and the oiled foam does not break down from vibration and the repeated washing and re-oiling. YMMV olddesertriderCummins power, 50 forward gears & a Caddy rear endIngenuity at its best. A hotrodders version of a tow vehicle Tow monster olddesertrider
