Maybe coil springs and airbags, that way you could raise the trailer when clearance was needed then lower it for cruising on the highway. :)Why so much ground clearance? Why are almost all of the new travel trailers built so high off the road? I have had several travel trailers in the past and they all were closer to the ground so they had less wind resistance and a lower center of gravity. Most of the new travel trailers have the bottom of the body almost above the top of the tires. Are they built this way to save $$$?Re: Performance pcmI think what they are doing is advancing the timing because I notice that some of their tunes require the use of higher octane fuel.Re: How do you feel about people walking through your campsite? When possible I park my vehicle to make walking thru more difficult and I also put my camp table and chairs in a position to block people from walking thru.Performance pcmI came across PCM of North Carolina on the web today. They offer performance chips tuned for towing and higher mileage and claim 10 to 14 more hp and 1 to 3 more mpg. Has anyone here used their product?Best future tow vehicleWe have a 2015 K-Z Sportsmen 14RB that has a gvw of 2800 lbs. We are towing it with a 2004 Venture van right now that is okay in the Florida flatlands. In about 18 months we may make a long trip to the Michigan UP. My question is what would be a good TV other than a pickup truck in the 2004 to 2008 model year range? Is a V8 a necessity or would a straight six like in the Trailblazer be good for mountains etc.? I also use the vehicle for a paper delivery route once a month so gas mileage is important to me. It is just me and the wife camping with two small dogs. ThanksRe: Purchasing our first TT - is this set up safe? CKNSLS wrote: I thought I would never tell someone he needs to get rid of their Mercedes and buy a decent tow vehicle. That's my suggestion. I found out quickly that there are a lot of people posting on here who think only a pickup truck is a good TV. P.S: Even though I am a newbie here I have towed RV's since I was 15 and I am 63 now.Re: Our First TT, will it be a hobby nightmare? Fizbin wrote: I am very handy for sure but I think the biggest issue would be a mysteriously leaking ceiling or wall. The last thing I want to do is look for a leak with caulk gun in hand,,, or actually deal with a poop issue. As far as tongue weight, all dealers are trying to sell me a special tow hitch for like $800. And from the reading on here I feel that is cool. I have learned from towing different things over the years that if I want to decrease tongue weight just load stuff behind the last axle, does this hold true here as well? I would say that no, that doesn't hold true here. You need to have 10 to 15% of the total trailer weight on your hitch for safe towing.Re: First travel trailerYes I was talking about the hybrids. We just purchased a new K-Z Sportsmen 14RB. We don't like taking down the dinette either but it has a sofa in addition to the dinette so we will leave the dinette made up when we are camping. It is only me and my wife so that will work fine for us. The max weight with cargo of the trailer is only 2800 lbs. which is a big reason we bought it. I have towed a heavier trailer in the past and now I want to travel as light as possible.Re: First travel trailerThis is just my opinion so take it for what its worth but: Having had the "bunkhouse" type of travel trailer with the canvas sleeping area we would not have another one. We had problems here in Florida with water leaking in at the pressure points where the mattress meets the corners of the canvas but the biggest reason is that there is no air circulation there when sleeping with the windows closed up and the A/C on. Of course we camp in Florida so it is hot here in the summer.
