The biggest thing I learned was I was not able to really do anything to help my wife- loading the MH, setting up at the campground, or any little chore throughout the day. This bothers me, I like to help her out. She said I could help best by staying out of her way and not falling. I almost fell once, thank goodness Forest River puts a big hand rail right inside the door. But we had a very enjoyable time. I was comfortable driving and no problems, wasn't sure how I would do not having a right leg. I see the doctor again in 2 weeks, hopefully he will say OK to leave for Florida. And, hopefully the weather will still allow travel next month.Re: No #2 Rule?I have never cared much for public facilities. I only use them for #1 when I have to. That's why I have a camper. Now, being handicapped/disabled, my right hip is fused among other things, I can not sit on a commode without a urinal, and I'll be damxxx if I carry one of those around a campground. I have my bathroom and shower fixed to where I can use them.one legged campingI'm going to try my first camping trip since my right leg was amputated last month. Been driving my car for the last 2 weeks, so am confident about taking the MH out. I reserved an ADA site at Salt Fork State Park in Ohio, 45 minutes from us, for 2 nights this week. The weather looks perfect, no more doctor's appointments for a couple of weeks, so I hope to have an enjoyable time.Re: Counter top extensionOur MH, 2014 Sunseeker 3010DS, has a flip-up extension at the end of the counter, but it is right in front of the door. When it is up, no one can go in or out. Nice selling feature, but we have never used it.crutchesLooking for opinions or experiences. It's been less than 2 weeks since my right leg was amputated. They gave me under arm crutches in the hospital and I am getting along ok with them, but have been wondering about forearm crutches. Looking at them on the internet, they seem to be easy to walk with and are said to be better for long term users. Anyone have any experience with them? Are they worth trying?Re: 50 Ways to Lighten Your RVWe use paper plates, mostly for ease of clean-up, but they do save a bit of weight over china.Re: Migraines, weather triggers, am I doomed?I suffered from migraines for years. Once my doctor put me on blood pressure medication for moderate high BP, they stopped. Only had one since then. Maybe a connection?Re: ATK tomorrowDay 9 after amputation, and I realize I had an extremely optimistic view of recovery. Still feeling effects of a major surgery and am getting bored taking it easy and sitting around. Am learning to use crutches, but body getting used to them is hard. I thought I felt bad after the first day of wrestling practice in high school! I never knew I had so many unused muscles in my arms and shoulders, plus I have to be careful of the pic line for my IV antibiotics. Six weeks of them, then I hope the pic line comes out. Doctor says he may release my to head south, but prosthesis guy says not to wait, he wants to try getting me on one right now. Not sure if he is right about not waiting or is afraid I'll go to someone else. Right now, not sure if I can even use one. Still too soon to start trying one anyway. Just taking it one day at a time.Re: ATK tomorrowSurgery went well, came home yesterday. But I will need 6 weeks of antibiotics by IV. After that, I'll have to see what doctor says.ATK tomorrowAfter 2 postponements, tomorrow I will have my above the knee amputation. Not looking forward to it, but at same time I am. This is a result of an accident 6 years ago that left me with a fused hip, 8' of metal rod with a hinge for a knee, and so much scar tissue build up, my knee became un-bendable almost from the beginning, and my leg 2" shorter. Now the knee and metal is full of infection. I have thought from the beginning my leg should have been taken, but the doc thought he could save it. I hope I will now be able to have better mobility and lose a lot of the pain I have had over the past few years. My biggest concern though, is still being able to head south this year! My wife just retired and this is supposed to be our first snowbirding winter.
