We've mostly been using 20# tanks but when it gets below freezing the camper can easily burn a tank a day.Re: More and more instant hot water systemsI switched to the Excel Tankless water heater from a 6 gallon tank. The 6 gallon heater was fine as long as we could space showers out, but we've got children that need baths (because sometimes you NEED a soaking bath to clean up some of the unholy messes they can make) and the 6 gallon heater just couldn't get the job done. Grey water tank is good for two baths before it has to dumped. I used it for doing dishes as well, it works fine. I fill up the sink with hot water and soap, let it soak, quickly rinse the dishes off after they soak. The water flow required to make the thing work is extremely low, barely a trickle. I swapped the shower head from a 2.5 GPM to a 1 GPM shower head and the water comes out toasty hot, the bathtub has to be filled up at a trickle - this was a $225 38K BTU unit not a $800 60K BTU model.Re: Travel Trailers vs Motor Homeif your tow vehicle breaks down, you can always go down to U-Haul and rent an F-450 or F-550 (also known as a 26 foot moving van). They all have trailer hitches. u-haul also sells a bluetooth brake controller for $200. Might have to do a little effort on making up a 4 way to 7 way adapter but you'll be able to safely tow the travel trailer out of the campground without calling a tow truck. Your motorhome breaks down? I believe its something like $1500 to call a heavy duty wreckerRe: Do Some Travel Trailers Have Levelling Jacks? We have a friend with a 1984 Coachmen 32 foot travel trailer. It's virtually identical to our 1991 Citation 32 foot travel trailer. The Coachmen was obviously a higher class unit when new, his has leveling jacks at all 4 corners along with a built in analog clock and water tank sensors, while the Citation...has absolutely nothing. I level the Citation by putting jack stands under the frame between the rear axle and last crossmember before the bumper, lowering the nose jack, raising the jack stands, then raise the nose jack back up. I'm not trying to get the wheels off the ground just make the bathtub drain properly and keep the thing from bouncing everywhere when someone walks through the bedroom. We had a 1991 Starcraft Starburst popup trailer before the Citation and its built in stabilizers could only be used to 'level' the trailer by messing with the nose jack as well. In that Starburst's case, if you didn't put some tension on the stabilizer jacks the door wouldn't stay shut and the single axle trailer would get extremely bouncy if someone got in one of the bunks without getting the jacks SOLIDLY on the ground. FYI - He said only one leveling jack still works and he uses a bottle jack and a bunch of wood to level it.
