There are only two of us and a bath and half works out great. We used to have the same opinion as yours about it being a waste. But once having that setup we would never return to just one bath.Re: To have a home base or not. bdpreece wrote: We had planned on full timing. Sold our big house and the wife gave away the china, sterling silver, and a lot of jewelry to the daughter in laws. I in turn went out to the garage and discovered I could not part with my tools. We bought a small (970 sq ft) house in a 55+ community. I call it my storage shed. This allows us to have a home base, doctors etc and a place to stay when we come back to visit the family. It also meant we did not have to pay to store items we did not want to part with. In the last 10 years the wife has had open heart surgery and I have had a total knee replacement. During the recovery times I don't think either one of us could have negotiated getting in and out of our motorhome. There is no one size fits all answer. You just have to weigh your options and go with your gut. We are satisfied with our choice and now that we are cutting back on long range travel we have purchased a park model and lot In Yuma so I am happy I still have all my tools to remodel it. My wife and I both retired just over 2 years ago. Over the last 14 years of RVing our plans went from fulltiming after retirement to deciding extended RVing was more our style. We made this decision for two reasons. My wife loves RVing but honestly wants a home to return to after months on the road and I too agree with that. Having a real home base now, instead of having to look for one if and when a medical emergency or something worse happens, is a major plus for us. The other reason is I am a true motor head and have two hot rod toys I refuse go get rid of and of course all the spare parts and tools need to support that hobby. Having to pay storage for this just to expensive for our budget. That and not having the use of those toys is unacceptable to me. We are currently getting our house ready to sell. We have all ready decided where we want to move to and once the house sells we will purchase another house almost immediately. Fulltiming isn't for everyone and fortunately for us we realized that years ago.Re: Full timer mailJust a suggestion here. We use America's Mailbox in Box Elder, SD. I highly recommend that you DO NOT use them. They constantly loose mail or don't send mail when requested. If I call requesting that they look to see if I have any mail, I need to tell them EXACTLY what I'm looking for or they will not look for anything. It seems that if I request mail sent to me via the USPS the mail it takes 3 weeks for it to get to me. Typically the mail is lost. The only way I can get my mail to me successfully is to have Americas Mailbox send everything via FedEx, which isn't cheap. I will not again have Americas Mailbox do any vehicle registration for me. Things get lost, never get done. Every vehicle we had registered in SD required me to contact the state to get verification that my plates were set out. Not until I did that did they 'find' my plates. Overall just plain horrible customer service. They only reason I keep Americas Mailbox is a requirement from Tricare Prime about having a military installation within a hundred miles of my address.Re: Stackable washer/ dryer TechWriter wrote: GoPackGo wrote: I have the Splendide stackables. Work great. Smaller loads than a full size unit but who cares ? The dirty laundry is 2 feet away from it and the drawers and closet for the clean clothes are about the same distance. Easy-peasy. Would not even consider doing the full timer lifestyle any other way. Ditto. OP, if your RV only has 110V (and not 220V) available, I'd also recommend the Splendide (ie Artison) combo. Another Dittio. We have the Splendide/Artison washer and dryer stackables. We don't have a scheduled 'Wash Day', just wash as needed. It is so convenient to have everything in the motorhome. There's no need to pack up the dirty clothes, find a decent/clean laundromat (only god knows what has been in a public washer or dryer), wash/dry everything, then pack up the clean clothes, drive back to the motorhome, then unpack everything and put it away. I think I would quit RVing if I had to use a laundromat.Re: Is a visit to Quartzsite worth our time SCVJeff wrote: I wouldn't be either. There are no RV parks south of town Yes there are. We stayed there a year ago this January. I don't remember the name of the RV park. It was very small, had full hookups and nothing but dirt to park on. It was in need of a lot of maintenance. This park is located a few miles south of Quartzsite, just west of HWY 95. I don't remember the name and you will not find it in RVparkreviews.com Here are the GPS coordinates: 33.57995 -114.24113 This RV park is part of a trailer park located just west of it at these coordinates: 33.58018 -114.24524 Put these coordinates in Google earth and you will see where we stayed. There is no 'Ground View' for these coordinates.Re: Is a visit to Quartzsite worth our timeBeen there - done that - won't be back. Last year we stayed in a (for lack of a better term) RV park south of town for 5 days. Not impressed.Re: TIFFIN MODELS - DRIVING COMPARISONS dougrainer wrote: CrossCountryNomad wrote: dougrainer wrote: There is no real difference in ride between the Powerglide and the Freightliner chassis. I've never had any major issues or headaches with either. The Freightliner chassis has performed very well for me. Freightliner service has been superb. I've only had a few minor issues and Freightliner covered those under warranty. No complaints at all with Freightliner. YOU are the exception. Most of my customers HATE dealing with Freightliner. Freightliner always seems to find anything is NOT a Freightliner issue. They always seem to have a charge regardless of warranty. Tiffin got tired of stepping up and reimbursing his customers for Freightliner charges that were bogus. So, Tiffin decided to build their own chassis and set up Chassis service centers across the nation to handle Powerglide issues. I have been in the service end of Motorhomes for 37 years and trust me, I would NOT want to have a Freightliner chassis due to the bad issues my customers have had. Doug Wow! I must have been living under a rock for the last 14 years. I have not heard about 'Most customers' hate dealing with Freightliner. I have four friends with Tiffins on the Freightliner chassis and I have not heard any complaints from them over the last 14 years. Like I said before, both of our DPs on Freightliner chassis have been trouble free. Combined mileage of our DPs is over 100,000 miles. Shame on me for being the exception! Why not do some reading on the Tiffin Owners forum about the Freightliner chassis? Folks there share their honest experience with the Freightliner chassis. Sure you will find folks talking about maintenance and fixing things. But there is not an underlying theme of hating Freightliner. There is a major difference in handling and ride when going to a DP. Our current 2012 Phaeton's ride quality is far superior to the Ford F53 chassis on the Coachmen.
