Los Angeles to Montgomery AL - 5wks on the road
As the subject says, Tuesday next week we're kicking off the cross-country trip from Los Angeles to Montgomery, AL. Towing an Open Range 308BHS with a '14 Silverado 1500 max tow (11,100) and Propride3P WD hitch. I have 4500 miles towing with this combination and I'm very happy with its performance thus far. Spending a week in Bryce/Zion Few days in Moab Few days in Silt CO (brand new KOA) Few days in Colorado Springs (yes, passing through the Eisenhower tunnel - it's going to be hard on the truck so if it grenades, here it will be) Week in Branson MO Silver Dollar City campground Few days in Land between the lakes Few days in Charlotte NC Final stop in Montgomery AL Wish me luck! Hoping that someone here could set me straight. To de winterize, I turned all the valves in the opposite direction that they were already facing. Plugged in the water and opened all the faucets. This got all the pink out. Closed all the faucets (not the valves), water still on at the spigot. Decided to let the water heater fill and check the heaters function. It worked great. By that time, about 10min after the water was turned on, the freshwater tank was completely full and overflowing out the overflow tubes. Happy to report that I did the 5700 mile round trip with an additional driver without issue in 7 days. The truck towed awesome, no sway. The 3P propride hitch is fantastic. We stopped and went no problems through high winds and many many semis on route 55/44/I-10. I have full confidence that the truck will continue to perform with an additional 1k in the trailer. We trailered at 55-60 the whole way back, so it took awhile and we had some really long days on the road. But we did great, and the truck did great. Forgot to get weights from the scales. Who are you guys going through for travel trailer insurance? What should I expect to pay with a clean driving record, $1000 deductibles and roadside assistance for a new paid $~33k trailer? 20 days a year of use, 3500 miles or so. I found quotes from Progressive and Good Sam to be similar at $350/yr. I most concerned with ensuring a blowout caused damage is insured, delams or water damage from faulty valves. That kind of thing, stuff that would cause major damage. What has been your experience with TT insurers? I have USAA for my cars now. yep. Doing the southern route both ways. For the amount of miles it adds in the grand scheme of things, it's a no brainer. I'm also going to install my Propride when I pick it up, so I hope its not too cold. Doubt the dealer is going to let me work on it in his shop, even if its my tools.432Views0likes0Comments
