Lol, only, and longest, interesting thread since they ruined this place. 2 thumbs up to y'all hanging on here. Howdy Grit Dog..! Only time we've ever seen anything North of 10mpg is empty, heading down hill. Most of our travels are at 50, maybe 60..small 2 lane roads. Almost always 25, 26k with the camper and trailer...and the average mpg is a staggering 7...maybe 8 on good weeks. I'm starting to think some folks don't know how to calculate actual milage, or my last five 550's just all had chitty motors :) Makes no sense. On the other subject... I'm not sold on the liquid springs from what I have read in following them. I wouldn't trade our Link suspension for anything.. but they aren't producing them any longer for small trucks, and that sucks. Got it... given the choice, we'll always bag out of the CA route. It's a slog. Straight up 15 to 84. It's smooth, enough traffic and people but still moves decently and nothing desolate. For a nicer drive, I'd break off to 82 and 90, but you could cut into Portland and up 5...a bit shorter. Enjoy. We boat... but traveling to always new areas with a boat just doesn't work for us. Time has taught us that we prefer boating/fishing in areas we know. I seriously don't want to learn how to fish an area every time I show up. So, we tour without. Fish and play in our home area. With that, we travel extensively with our truck camper, couple months at a time usually. But we tow a support trailer that carries Kayaks, bikes and motorcycle(s). And lot's of water. To each their own... I'd start camping with a rental. Seriously. Try a couple of things out, see what they are like, what you enjoy. We own a 5th wheel...absolutely love it for working out of. Wouldn't travel or camp out of it every again. Can't stand it. RV's; they are not all the same, and everyone is different. Don't try and talk yourself into something. Or let others. Which is whey I suggest renting, even if for only a few nights. You'll know real quick things you like and those that you can't stand. Describe your definition of "long, desolate"... it really does make a difference in the answers. Does getting off an Interstate qualify, or? Awesome; to the point, and crystal clear. This utopiaian dream of some of our elected leaders, that we'll be rid of ICE vehicles in 5, 10, even 20 years, and the fact that so many buy this as a realistic goal, is sad. "Hard to believe anyone believes that EV’s are going away" Might just be me, but no where did I read, nor interpret, that anyone thinks EV's are disappearing.
