It's free and not binding. Still, the problem persists. It's more of a slight misfire than a surging. Steve I had the same problem, move the governor spring 1 hole tighter and see if this helps. These generators are set to run lean due to emissions, to fix this pull the fuel bowl - remove the main jet with a screwdriver - take the jet to a motorcycle shop and ask them to port it 1 size over then try it. You will most likely need 2 sizes over and don’t want it to run too rich. I did this to all of my Chinese engines, they start first pull and don’t surge. The local shop charges me $1.50 per port or you can buy a set to do this yourself.Re: The Official unofficial CPE 2000i Generator ThreadMay be why they last longer and take larger surges, my 1200 80cc Champ is struggling at full load and voltage is down a little.Re: The Official unofficial CPE 2000i Generator ThreadFor everyone having surging problems here is a fix that I do on Chinese engines. Get a extra main jet for the carburetor, take it to a motorcycle shop and have them increase the hole 1 size at a time. Only port until the engine smoothes out and runs under load off choke without surging. You need to get it just right and not run too rich. This worked great on all of my Chinese engines and they start first pull with no surging or warm up time. I did the last one in the shop parking lot on my truck bed, it took two sizes over the factory port.Re: The Official unofficial CPE 2000i Generator ThreadI have a Yamaha 2400 with around 2000 hrs on it, it does have a 171 cc motor. Motor runs strong and does not use any oil, runs all day on a tank of gas. I also have a Champion 1200/1500 with 60 hrs on it, never need to change the oil because it it burns 4 - 5 oz between fill ups. I disconnected the oil sensor to get longer run time, other than that it is a great little unit!Re: The Official unofficial CPE 2000i Generator Thread Old & Slow wrote: bradyk wrote: You can't always use numbers. Sometimes there will be a bad run of product and it can sku the numbers based on one bad batch. Randall and myself have both taken the liberty of trying to fix our gennys with parts from Champion. We are both handy and it sometimes is just as easy to do it yourself. Just to make sure everyone know they are not all bad and only may be some of them. I have a 4K Champion as well and so does my FIL and they are both awesome gennys and neither of us has had an issue in 4 years. Make sure you have all the numbers before coming to conclusions not just a few. May the question be asked, what parts were supplied by Champion for the Champion 2000i that may have brought the Inverter genset up to advertised standards? Many of us are still on the fence as to what to buy in an Inverter generator. At this time, it seems, the Champion 2000i will not be the ideal RV genset. Even in pairs, many problems of proper sync are reported and the sustained output of more than 3 hours is also in question. As to parts, the question remains, are all parts on hand including the modules at Champion CPE CS. And how long would they stock parts after a new unit might hit the market? Questions, questions, questions. Get a Yamaha 2400i, I think it is 75 lbs around $1100.00 and only 1 motor to maintain. These units are very reliable and run about 9 hrs on a tank of gas. They also start a 13500 ac at all altitudes and temperatures, so if its hot out you still have ac and will run until it is out of gas. I have a 1200 champion with low hrs and had to pull the black and yellow wires out to get it started last time I used it, oil is full. The Champs are nice project generators if you like to tinker.Re: The Official unofficial CPE 2000i Generator Thread preacher61 wrote: ReverendCharles wrote: ....thank God I got my honda 2000.....a little pricey yes,but worth every penny I thank GOD for many things. I apologize that my very first posting is one of admonishment. God Bless, Richard Agnew Thank you byates for clearing this up. I found the response in another thread posted by a Costco employee and copy and pasted it here. Richard, I do thank God for everything that I have every day!Re: The Official unofficial CPE 2000i Generator ThreadThis was in response to my post under tech issues - mick/linda • View posts • Send Private Message • Add to Buddy List • Notify me of new posts • Block this member nf Full Member Joined: 05/23/2011 View Profile Offline Posted: 06/23/11 11:31am Link | Quote | Print | Notify Moderator -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ReverendCharles wrote: Old & Slow has a large amount of knowledge on these units. My friend listened to old & slow and bought a yamaha 2400 or 2800. He said during the Memorial day weekend there were 2 champion 2000i's near his campsite and 1 was waiting on repair parts, the other was tripping every time the inverter was plugged in and the guy was running around with all sorts of meters trying to get it to work. He finally let them plug into his Yamaha to charge their batteries. If you do get a Champion purchase it at Costco so you can return it every 90 days for a new one. This way you may hit the jackpot and get 1 that works, otherwise spend a little more and get a Yamaha or Honda. By the time you get 2 champions, connector cord, cell phone bills to tech support, down time, gas to the repair center, and electric meters to see if it is working you would have been further ahead going the other rout. Just my opinion after listining to Old & Slow and observing them first hand!
