I got between 7-8 mpg in the mountains and struggled most of the way. I just returned from the same trip but this time with my new F-350 PSD Dually. What a difference!! Took the hills like it was born for it. Also got between 11.7 and 12 MPG. The best thing I did was to get a dually. To all you guys who suggested it, I owe you a beer.Re: Diesel vs gas......................I recently traded in my 2500HD gas 6L for a 350 PSD. After towing my 10,500lb Jayco up mountains last summer and feeling sorry for the stress I put on the gas engine, I knew I needed a diesel. If we had to worry about saving a few dollars we wouldn't be RV'ers but stay home, sit on the porch, tightwads. Go traveling. Life is too short to worry about a few cents.Re: Diesel vs gas......................Just got a 2006, Ford 350 psd, cc, duelly with the 3.73 axel. getting 12.4 mpg towing almost 11,000 lbs. my chevy 2500HD, 6.0 gasser was a great truck but struggled up hills and was not stable on steep down grades in the Blue Ridge mountains. The computer says I'm getting 19 mpg solo but I don't go above 65 on the Interstate. the gasser got between 9-10 mpg towing and 16 on the interstate solo ( going about 63 mph). diesel fuel is 23 cents a gallon above regular gas in Florida at this time. I'm using my scooter around town to keep cost down. I don't know if I made a mistake getting the diesel. Only time will tell. It's a great truck for towing and I hope to use it a lot. Just wish fuel will come down from $3.26 a gallon for diesel. Remember when gas stations gave you glasses, dishes, anything to buy there? Boy, has time changed.
