Maybe heat shrink would be better.Re: Automatic awning issuesThanks for all the help and advice through my various posts about awnings. I finished the job this morning, and everything worked out great. The awning is working as it should now, and there is brand new fabric to boot. Turns out the barrel connectors were all corroded, so I cleaned those off and used some dielectric grease on that connection, and wrapped the entire thing in electrical tape to try and help shielded water in the future. The tension spring was also not set correctly, so I corrected the tension as well. Happy to say that now it works great! Thanks again all.Re: Awning question (last one hopefully)Thanks for all the help and advice through my various posts about awnings. I finished the job this morning, and everything worked out great. We really didn’t see many 5ers that offered much more than our TT in terms of amenities or comfort without getting into the much bigger rigs. To own one of those is a bucket list thing now....I fell in love with the 370RBS...if I had the truck, it would be in my drive now. But sadly, I don’t, and I can’t really afford to get back into massive payments on trucks and rv’s right now. Someday....keep wishing....Re: Awning question (last one hopefully)Excellent!!Awning question (last one hopefully)Ok...awning off, new fabric on, end caps replaced...now, it is a 17’ Dometic awning, and the research I found said that the spring should be tensioned 10 turns (clockwise—spring is on the left side). My question—after turning it 10 times (assuming that is the right number), do I reinstall the awning ina rolled up position, about a foot or so away from the camper, therefore the spring would have 10 turns of tension in the closed position? Or do I reinstall the awning in the fully extended position, therefore placing 10 turns of tension on the spring when the awning is fully extended? Sorry for all the awning questions....I am new to all of this.Re: Awning arms questionNot worried as much about the roller spring, but rather the arms themselves. They spring out when the tube is disconnected. In all videos I have watched, the awning arms stayed neatly in place, about a foot away from the camper once the roller was removed. Mine do not do that. They spring forward fast to the extended position. I could probably take the awning off from the extended position, but putting the new fabric on and replacing the roller from that position would be exceptionally hard.Awning arms questionMy awning woes continue. I have new fabric for my dometic power awning, and I am wondering about the best way to safely remove the roller bar from the arms myself. The arms are spring loaded to extend, and if I take the roller off when the awning is only about a foot or so away from the camper, the arm will spring forward to the fully extended position, potentially harming someone. I don’t want to wrestle with taking it off from the fully extended position, but I see no locks on the arms to keep them back. Is there a safe way to do this myself?Re: Automatic awning issuesIt wasn’t under load.. I can’t get the voltage tester anywhere on the motor while running to check it. I can only unplug the motor and test it at the connector. Unless I remove the motor...which may be my next step. Not sure how to connect a battery directly to the motor...i don’t have a connector thing that would work....maybe i will take the motor out—need to anyway, as I am going to replace the fabric—and then take it over to the local event place to have it tested....I don’t know enough about these things to know what to look for.
