It has a mint interior and very minor surface rust on the rockers, which is rare in this part of Canada. Usually they are rotted out. The truck has 290,000 kms but runs well and doesn''t leak anything. The back seat is huge which is great for the kids, plus it had a factory dvd system. Now the bad part. I got it for $5000 because I didn't get it saftied. The owner said it only needed a cv boot cover which he had included. I looked for bent frames, rot holes, general bad stuff but it seemed pretty good. I brought it to my mechanic after I bought it and I have to replace 3/4 ball joints which are just starting to go, pitman arm and idler am, rear brake pads rotors, calipers, parking brake and I put new calipers on the front just in case. Oh and all new brake lines. Brake lines in Canada don't much make it past 10yrs unless you rustproof your car every year. I've been doing all the work myself, so I've just had to pay for parts. The only thing I don't know if I can do is the lower ball joints because you need a torsion bar unloading tool which I can't find for rent anywhere. I think I've probably spent about $1500 in parts. So I'm still under my $7000 budget and I shouldn't have to do any suspension or brake work for the rest of the life of the truck(knock on wood).Re: $7000 to spend on tow vehicle, suggestions?I should also mention,I'm in the Toronto area. The cheapest 3/4 avalanche I see listed right now is $8800. There are few chev/gm 2500's with 6.0L's. I'm thinking that's probably gonna be my best bet. Full 4 doors would be nice, but my kids are only 11 and 5 so they'll survive the back seat.Re: $7000 to spend on tow vehicle, suggestions? I have enough monthly payments, thanks$7000 to spend on tow vehicle, suggestions? We bought a 26ft Kingsport trailer. Dry weight is pretty heavy, 6300lbs. I have $7000 to spend for a tow vehicle, so I'm probably looking at about a 8-10yr truck. We have 2 kids to take with us so it needs a pretty roomy back seat. I've been looking at the dodge Ram's and Chevy Avalanche, as they seem to have pretty big back seats. I'm not interested in SUV's I already have a Highlander. I know with chev/gm I'll need at least a 5.3 v8, Dodge 5.7,5.9, Ford just not the smallest v8. Most of our trips are going to be less than 3hr tows. But we would like to take 1 trip every couple years that could be a few 1000 miles. So can I get some pro's and con's to each vehicle. eg. Are Avalanche's good for a trailer that big? I saw some reports that said owners wouldn't tow anything over 5000lbs with their avalanche 1500 series.
