Thanks- interesting, my State Farm agent said no such option was available! Will have to talk to them again! Unfortunately, companies offer different options and coverage in different states. Do have him/her check again ( check with agent directly not through their staff) and maybe cold call another state farm agent. I don't know if it makes a difference but I have had the same agent for over 30 years. They go over and above whenever I have called for info or claims. Yep - that was it. Different state, different States Farm options. So frustrating… Given the forum we’re on ??, I was anticipating some first-hand feedback on one of those policies through Good Sam. Have contacted them and seems too good to be true (and so naturally to be avoided at all costs…). Plus, as far as I can tell, it is a front for National General (i.e. they don’t intend to ever actually issue policies through any of the other companies they list in their ads). Anyone have any real-life knowledge/experience?Re: Generators: Cummins 4500 vs Westinghouse vs. ?????Ah yes - if only money was an easier issue to overcome. Spending it solely as a ‘just in case’ hedge against extended loss of power at home that allows you to go outside and live with amenities in the RV until it comes back on is one of the tougher calls. But if I were to decide do it, I’d consider the same money far better spent on a smaller Honda with a very high chance of being able to run just one of the two AC units at a time whenever I needed it than any other larger unit and pretty good odds I’ll find myself totally sweltering in total frustration should the occasion arise. Best of luck.Re: RV InsuranceSent last message before saw ‘delwhjr’ post. Thanks- interesting, my State Farm agent said no such option was available! Will have to talk to them again!Re: RV InsuranceAlready have ‘good’ ‘conventional’ insurance that covers based on current value of similar units of same age. Basically treats RVs like cars. Available from all major companies, all of which can be reasonably researched for customer satisfaction (yes, can find good and bad for all, but trends tend to be evident). Am interested in any experience with policies that advertise to treat RVs very differently, none of which are offered by the ‘well known’ insurance brands, and all of which have a very small number of users compared to what is ‘conventional’ - and therefore hard to research. So yes, I am interested in any actual experience with needing to use such policies (including ‘agreed value’ policies- do you have actual experience with one?)Re: Generators: Cummins 4500 vs Westinghouse vs. ?????Maybe too late, but I just joined the forum today - been RVing for 30 years though. Generators a pet peeve of mine. The only people I know of (including me) who cannot do more than the simplest, most basic maintenance themselves and are happy with the reliability of any generator(s) they use are people who rely on Honda generators (Yamaha possibly being an acceptable alternative). Worth every penny of the extra money - including the custom carrier I had built for my two Honda 2200s and an extended run tank. Only one generator needed to power the 11000 btu AC I had added in the rear of our Class C. > every 100 hours = Oil changes, air filters if needed, and clean spark arresters > fuel stabilizer always used > run under load at least once a month for at least 1 hour > replaced original dipsticks with magnetic dipsticks Over 1000 hours of use in the last 6 years with NO problemsRV InsuranceHello All, A lot of the advertising out there sounds good, but of course ads aren’t worth the paper they’re printed on - or the cyberspace they occupy ??. So… Anyone out there have actual experience, good or bad, making a claim for full replacement value with any of the insurance carriers providing such an option? If so, which carrier and what did you need to replace and how old was it? How about experiences with large claims short of that mark (say $10,000 or more)? Been RVing for 30 years and am on my second class c (2014). I’ve made a lot of improvements and plan to hold onto it until I can’t RV anymore. If it’s actually possible to do, it would be great to truly protect it - so I’m hoping there are some real life success stories out there.
