But that is something to consider for sure. I think a conventional apartment fridge might take a bit of woodwork, actually be smaller and not look so good. But that might be the way to go anyway. E$pecially. We will be at the RV show in Hershey PA this Wednesday and will look around. Thanks for the answers and I'd love more. BTW, there is no sharing of temps between top and bottom. I'd so hoped for a simple bad fan there. Condenser fins in bottom sweat a lot. Top tends to frost over on the back wall.Bad Dometic RM1350 - Repair or replaceWe only run it on 120 and maybe 1-2 weekends a month. It's not keeping things cold. It cycles up into the 50s in the lower part. Freezer still seems to work ok. Was replaced under warranty some years back. After that, I installed a 12v fan to blow air over the top "coils." Just found repair manual so will look into it. BTW we don't take it on the road though we might do so again one day. Ideas? Is there a 120v only replacement out there that would fit? And presumably be cheaper and more reliable.Re: Toilet Seal does not hold water Wishbone51 wrote: It seems to me that all of these suggestions help condition a faulty seal. If you replaced the seal as you've mentioned, and it still fails, none of these tips should help. Sounds like an issue with whatever device (a spring on my Thetford) is holding the seal on the hole. You might have to take the toilet out and inspect the mechanism from the underside. Thank you. I guess it's coming down to that. Far cheaper than replacing the whole unit. Keep me off the streets next weekend.Re: Toilet Seal does not hold waterOur SeaLand toilet will not hold water in the bowl. We tried petroleum jelly but that did not work. We replaced the seal (very easy) and still no luck. To summarize what has been posted above, we should try: - Fill bowl with hot soapy water. - After it all leaks away, open valve, remove seal, use brush to scrape clean. Groove probably has hardened residue. - Replace seal. - Pour in olive oil with NO WATER and work the flapper a few times. - Can also try Thetford toilet seal conditioner. - Or Swimming Pool silicone based lubricant for O-rings. - When leaving for a few days, put water in bowl and pour in some mineral oil to stop evaporation. Have I got that right? Missed anything, or any other ideas? I don't want to replace a toilet over this.Re: 3000W Chinese Gensets Info.I believe American Household bought Coleman in 98, after a period of decline at Coleman. Jarden later bought the whole works, American Household, including Coleman, etc, out of bankruptcy proceedings. My Coleman 5000ER was bought in the early 90's, but it was clear there were problems even then. Many of the units were DOA at the store, many failed with low hours. Design was poor- I literally could not find anyone willing to work on them. They were viewed as disposable. Also, something about a tapered spline shaft or some such made the engine of limited value. I gave it to some guy who made a go cart out of it. P.S.- I know LaPlace. I grew up in NOLA.Re: 3000W Chinese Gensets Info.Let me assure you, as a former owner (gen died, unrepairable), that the "C" word is a very dirty word, indeed. Loud, unreliable, poor quality power output. And did I mention, it was VERY loud. I'm tempted to say such garbage should not be allowed to be sold. Suffice to say, I am very unlikely to buy anything with that dirty word attached to it. Since the name was sold, the quality is garbage.Re: 3000W Chinese Gensets Info. From first hand experience, I can assure you that a larger muffler will have no effect on a loud generator. I put a larger muffler on a Coleman (please excuse the filthy language) 5000ER I once owned. No noticeable difference. There is nothing good to be said about a loud generator. Not even "inexpensive." Do not waste your money. You can get quieter generators for little or no monetary difference.Re: 3000W Chinese Gensets Info.Best of luck to you both. And AZ seems to be a GREAT jumping off place for RVing!Re: 3000W Chinese Gensets Info.AZ Ron: Your reefer might be old enough to be sensitive to level. Make sure your unit is as level as possible, run it overnight on electricity with a few things in it, like water or soda cans, and some ice cube trays. Should all be cold in morning, and ice made or nearly so. If not, you have a problem. Replacement units are not cheap, but how much do you want to spend on repairs on a unit over 20 years old (assuming it's original)? As to generator- do you plan on installing it in the location set aside for a generator, or carry it out back or somewhere else? If it's to go in the gen area, size constraints may drive your choice more than anything else. BTW, I strongly recommend the electric start (yes, dear, I'm a believer now). That way, you might actually run it once a month for a few minutes to keep it in shape. Although my Kipor 3500Ti starts easily with the recoil, it starts even easier with the electric switch. My old Coleman (please excuse the foul language) 5000ER would start with recoil, but not easily. P.S.- Keep Ember glowing. If SHE ain't happy, ain't NOBODY happy. :)
