I've never dealt with solar, so I came here to start after seeing other threads on bigger setups. Just to clarify, I'm not looking for the ability to recharge with solar, just maintain the full charge while my boat is sitting at home on the trailer. That's why I was guessing 5-10W. I should have said this is a small fishing boat with only one deep cycle battery. Thanks again - I've got some good info to get started!! Based on my limited needs, it looks like this one with a controller would do the trick. SolarRe: Searching for solar battery maintainer kitI think 5W - 10W is big enough. Something I can leave on all the time to maintain my battery during the summerRe: Searching for solar battery maintainer kitLike this? Or thisSearching for solar battery maintainer kitI'm looking for a small, complete setup to maintain a deep cycle marine battery in my fishing boat. I usually keep a charger on it every so often to keep it charged but it would be nice to have a solar kit. I'd still use the charger after a trip to the lake. Is anyone familiar with something like this in one kit? Or will I have to buy a panel and controller separately? ThanksRe: What gauge cable to TT battery? Now I wish I had used 2AWG size. Always changing things... Got my wire from AMAZON and the wire brand is ANCOR MARINE wire Also got all of my correct size Ring Terminals using the ANCOR BRAND. Cut most of wiring proper lengths and used a hand power crimping tool and adhesive heat shrink ends to dress thing up... heat shrink tubing application like this... Everything uses the ring terminals so it can all dress up real neat... If you don't want to build your cables you can purchase all of these 4AWG and 2AWG size cables you need from AMAZON cut to the different lengths and all will have the heat shrink ends etc... Cut to length - ready to install... AMAZON delivers in two days using AMAZON PRIME... Won't help the shins thoughRe: those looking at generators danimal53 wrote: if only I got some kind of commission for sharing this info :B You'd probably be awarded employee of the month! At least you have our gratitude ;) I also ordered one and really appreciate the heads up!!Re: Twist lock cord vs standard Lynnmor wrote: A few reasons that I don't use the twist lock connectors can be found by searching Google images using: twist lock cord burned photo ANY connection is a potential weak link electrically and may fail. I would imagine theres as many twist lock as any other. It would be nice to have a short pigtail hardwired to the TT wall to plug into that would keep the connection away from the TT and not have 25' of cord to store inside. Might be a future project!
