Other tips before buying into a deeded park.. Rent a site if possible in the park and spend some time in it. Read the newsletters, financial reports, and board meeting minutes. Research state laws for probate or transfer on death applicable to the lot if you die before you sell it. With housing prices going through the roof in most areas, the same is happening with the prices for deeded RV lots. I find these deeded parks often don't come up in campground searches. I also don't find any national databases. Best approach is to zero in on areas of interest and then do in depth searches using things like 55+ retirement communities, real estate for sale etc.1KViews0likes0CommentsRe: Thousand Trails memberships
The best way to try out Thousand Trails is to buy a zone pass for a year. It's a very small investment and they run sales frequently. Don't buy a lifetime membership until you have done this and camped in the parks for a year. This is what we did and we like Thousand Trails so upgraded via the purchase of a membership from a private party last year...very happy. rvlove does a good job blogging on Thousand Trails. JPedro says "The whole stand alone brake pedal box sounds expensive and unreliable.". Correct on both counts. My Demco Delta Force was installed on the toad at the time I bought my new 2017 Minnie Winnie at a cost of $1,700. I'm on my 3rd system (5 year warranty). When the system works, it is great. It provides proportional breaking which I personally like. The brake helps me with every stop, even a slow roll at a traffic light etc. It releases immediately when I come to a complete stop or when I remove my foot from the MH brake pedal. But the system FAILS. It actuates without cause ...sometimes on the highway (scary) and sometimes during the installation and testing pre-trip. It also blows the 20 AMP fuse to my Honda CRV accessory socket where it is plugged in for power. Have read lots on all the different systems and trying to decide what to replace it with. Saw a guy in the parking lot once with his toad brakes locked up, his system was permanently installed so he didn't know how to disengage it. A Tow truck came and pulled his vehicle onto the trailer, only way to get it into the shop. Leaning toward a system recommended by a local and highly rated installer...Blue Ox Patriot a portable system with proportional braking. (I hate to go without a brake system as it really does making stopping easier and safer in my opinion). But it is an extreme hazard to have a system that engages at highway speed for NO reason. Delta Force has been very responsive and repaired or replace (#3) the system. But all 3 have failed during the 4 years of operation.1.1KViews0likes0CommentsRe: Class C Pros and Cons
When we bought our new Minnie Winnie in Oct 2016, I simply called my insurance company (Liberty Mutual) and added the RV and waited for a bill. They had served us well for years with auto and townhome coverage, so we didn't give it much thought until the premium notice arrived. It was shocking! Closer to what OP mentions. We quickly got on the Good Sam website and applied for and received a new policy all online for a fraction of Liberty's price. Very satisfied with the people at Good Sam. You can't overstate the convenience of pulling over into a rest stop and taking a nap, using the restroom, making lunch, getting drinks all without anyone moving outside between vehicles.390Views0likes0CommentsRe: Door county WI
Recommend Tranquil Timbers 3 m from downtown Sturgeon Bay. Checked in on a Sunday and checkout tomorrow (Friday). Wonderfully laid back - things are slowly opening up. Wear a mask. Good biking from this park into town or into Potawatomi State park which adjoins the private campground Tranquil Timbers. We visited Yellowstone in '15 with our Class C and Honda CRV in tow. Stayed at Fishing Bridge Campground with FHU. One day we used the toad to tour the park and the next the Class C. We had no problems parking the Class C and enjoyed the day much more because we had all the conveniences on hand during the long day. The suggestions to start EARLY are good ones (we didn't do that and spent a lot of time in traffic and looking for parking). There is a huge parking lot at the lodge where we parked away from the crowds and took naps and had a wonderful lunch in the lodge. 40 miles outside the East entrance, we stopped on our way home at Newton Creek NFS CG for $15. That site was spectacular and a highlight for me compared to the bland campgrounds inside the park. Thousand Trails is my answer to the question of where to land for the winter. With the Trails Collection, I have access to 190 parks. Lots of good parks in Florida, Arizona, and Texas. Not to mention California which I haven't been to yet. Can move "park to park" and mix it up with stays in state parks and private campgrounds. Solves the dilemma of which place is best. We just did that trip in reverse. No issues and we enjoyed the coast. Were in no hurry and stopped for a night at Grayton Beach SP which is very good. Headed South via 231 to Panama City (4 lane). Yes, there is traffic because this whole stretch is a great area to visit. I wouldn't recommend it if you are in a hurry to get where you are going. We are in a Class C towing.429Views0likes0Comments
