All ActivityMost RecentMost LikesSolutionsRe: Shaw Direct/WinegardWe were having the same Winegard issues and the work around (to keep it short) is when the satellite peaks with a good signal unplug the Winegard box. We have done this several times and although a pain, it works. We were in touch with Winegard about 3 weeks ago and they did say an update was available at a cost of around $350 US plus shipping (can't remember the exact $$ amount.) Have heard different scenarios on what we are actually going to be able to receive in the US this winter. If it is anything that is not HD that doesn't leave a whole lot and not worth it, to us anyway. Are there any Cdn's in the southern US now that can tell us what is really happening?Yuma to Puerto Penasco - Problems? We are heading to PP from Yuma tomorrow and just heard from someone that went down a couple of days ago, that they got held up by a protest near El Golfo. After 5 hrs they U turned and took a different route so their 3 hr trip took them 15 hours. She said she didn't know if the protest was over as the police thought it could last several days. Has anyone heard or know where we might find out more information so we can decide if we should go via Lukeville. It is longer but sure don't want to get hung up by a protest for hours. Thanks.Re: Wifi Booster/RouterThanks to all for your input. Gives me food for thought and some research to do. Thanks for the links, and the link to the blog on building your own. Looks interesting.Wifi Booster/RouterI have searched on the site for info on a wifi booster and see that the best solution would be a booster and router so I can use my other devices ie:iPad, iPhone, printer and to be able to use multiple devices with one log in. There seems to be a myriad of possibilities so I am confused on the best product, for the best value. I have had the worst internet this snowbird season so need to do something. I do have a new computer since last season but I would have thought that would have made it better, rather than worse. I am looking for something reasonably priced, that works well and is user friendly as well as easy set up. It can be a unit that is mounted on the roof if that is the best. I had a RadioWave antenna previously but it has become outdated. The ones I researched on this site were from a low of $35 to a high of $500-600, a little too pricey for my needs. Your suggestions are appreciated.Internet in Yuma, AZAfter travelling around for the last 9 or so years we are thinking of spending more time in one place. We are not sure where that will be but are going to rent a lot in the Foothills of Yuma, and see how that goes. We have arranged to rent a lot for 6 weeks after Xmas. Can anyone that currently stays in the area advise me of the best (ie cheapest) internet provider that does not require a contract period or a large installation fee? The lot owner indicated there are local providers that will hook up for no cost and no contract but I haven't been able to find any info. He didn't give me a name and not sure he does know which ones. He has another provider and didn't recommend them as he said he has had issues. ThanksRe: Meat across the borderI called US Customs prior to our crossing into the US from Alberta, this week. Things change periodically so you never know. He said the only meat not allowed was goat and lamb. Basically the only produce was citrus, tomatoes & peppers. (Although there can be some variance province to province) When we crossed the border the only thing we were asked about was the produce.Re: Restaurant in KelownaJust Googled White Spot and it came up with 3 locations. Would this be the one on Harvey Ave? There is also one at the airport and Westbank but I am guessing they are not the right ones??? I need to pass the address on to the rellies so they can meet us there.Re: Restaurant in KelownaThanks SideHillSoup, White Spot it will be. Thanks for your help.Restaurant in KelownaWe will be camping near Vernon, some family that we haven't seen in a while we be camping in Penticton. We decided to meet up one day for lunch in Kelowna. We haven't been there for ages so aren't familiar with the restaurants there. Can anyone suggest a decent restaurant that would be easily accessible from both directions that would be good to meet at. Just lunch, doesn't have to be fancy just good food and a nice relaxing atmosphere for a nice visit. Thanks!Re: Family Camping GroupsWe have belonged to a family camping club in Calgary, AB for the last 20 years. We camp every second weekend (approx) from Mothers' Day to (Cdn) Thanksgiving. We usually stay within a 2 hr radius from Calgary. (+/-) We try and get a lot of group camps so often have a shelter to play cards, relax, have pot lucks or whatever. If you are interested in joining us for a weekend to see what we are all about send me a PM.
