Also, diesels have not always been turbo-charged. The first Cummins put in trucks (called a "JT") was naturally aspirated as was the NT220. The diesels that Oldsmobile & Cadillac used in the '70s weren't turbo-charged.Re: Diesel vs gas......................SRockhead: My mistake, Rockwood: What was the purpose of your post? My comments on the torque of the John Deere were related to torque only. I already KNOW the horsepower. You can get six HP ratings on the same engine. It is a 2 cylinder with 302.9 cubic inch displacement. Governed RPM is 1125 (eleven hundred twenty five). 5.5" bore X 6.5" stroke. Running on gasoline: 44.7 drawbar HP; 48.7 PTO (belt) HP. On Distillate fuel (similar to stove oil) 32.7 drawbar, 35.7 belt. On LPG 45.9 Drawbar HP, 50.3 belt HP. The one in the pull was running on gasoline. There was a little smoke with distillate fuel, and there is no LPG tank on it, Now maybe you can "reverse engineer" your formula and figure out how much torque is lifing those front wheels off the ground at near idle RPM. And those old "two poppers" would pull down to the last Revolution.Re: Diesel vs gas......................I wish I knew where to look for them. I've not seen them yet. Your intelligent posts or facts, as it were. I'd like to see them.Re: Diesel vs gas......................:E Bertp's Credo: My mind is made up; Don't confuse me with facts!!!:SRe: Diesel vs gas......................My last post for your benefit, Bert. This came from a John Deere site. It does mention 'torque. "1960 John Deere 630 Standard tractor pullYou can throttle these old two cylinder John Deere tractors right down near idle because of the phenomenal amount of torque they produce at such low RPM’s. ... john-deeretractors.com/blog/1960-john-deere-630-standard-tractor-pull - 23k - Cached - Similar pages"Re: Diesel vs gas......................Bert, That John Deere produced 44 HP at 1000 (one thousand) RPM. How much do you suppose it's putting out at idle, which it is doing on the pull. All torque. Also, it weighed 5900 lbs.Re: Diesel vs gas......................:B This site is kinda dedicated to Bertp and Hannibal that like to debate "torque vs horsepower". Be sure your speakers are on so you can hear that old "Two Popper" do its' thing at 200 RPM. Two Popper That is pure torque picking the front wheels off the ground.
