All ActivityMost RecentMost LikesSolutionsRe: Smelly waterSulfates or hydrogen sulfide gas in the water giving a distinct "rotten egg" smell. Some places have a high sulfur content in their water. Left sitting in an RV for awhile can bring out the worst. Simply drain the water heater and flush out the system with fresh water. It should all go away. If this is happening frequently and your water heater has a magnesium anode, change to an aluminium one. There are places I have camped that have a high sulfur content and I drain and flush the system when I return home.Re: Rear Suspension Air Bags for my truckFord seems to have soften up the rear springs in the last few years. I put Firestone bags on my '01 and on this '11 to level out the truck when towing. I put about 35 psi before hooking up which gives me about 50 psi loaded. I didn't install an on-board compressor and wish I had.Re: Diesel Mechanic mobileggrn wrote: Looking for a good diesel mechanic in the Apache Junction/Mesa Arizona area. (Phoenix) 2002 F350 7.3 dually. Thanks. John Wood Automotive, Holtville, CA. Bit of a drive but he knows Fords diesels and transmissions.Re: Truck bed cover....Funny you should mention that. I have a Truxedo roll-up cover on my truck and also on my last truck. Never been a problem until last year. I noticed a gouge out of one of the mounting rails. No idea how or when. It was only that one time. Hauling the trailer over some of the terrain that I do, it doesn't surprise me. Not something you should worry about. Once in 12 yrs.Re: 2012 Ford F-350 and disc brakes on fifth wheelI have a 2011 Ford and hydraulic disk brakes on the trailer. You will need to switch your brake controller from Electric to EOH. Key the "Setup" button until you see TBC Electric/EOH. Then key the "Reset" button to toggle to EOH. You are gonna love those new brakes.Re: Ford 7.3 power stroke f250 any good?I had an '01. My first long trip towing a 5th wheel, it drove me crazy because it down shifted going over every over pass and small hills. I put a mild tune a larger exhaust and gauges in it. That turned it into a great tow vehicle. That extra power, as little as it was, was too much for the torque converter clutch. That vehicle was one of the most dependable I ever owned. Never left me on the side of the road and would start unaided at -40 deg. The box started rusting and had it fixed once, but the guy did a chit job so I sold it and got a 2011. I haven't regretted that either.Re: recommendations for small portable washing machI have heard good thing about this Haier portable washer. It comes in 1.0 cu ft. and 1.5 cu. ft. I've been tempted myself. Haier-1.0-Cubic-Foot-Portable-Washing-MachineRe: Stopping for grub n gas Cdaddy wrote: Do you just look for truck stops. Any suggestions or clues to look for so I don't pull off and find places I can't fit. I'm pulling a 33 foot travel trailer. Thanks and happy camping Hell, getting in tight spots is half the fun. Truck stops are last on my list unless they have something special to offer. Their fuel prices seem to always on the high side. If a nice modern fuel stop has truck pumps in the back, l look for diesel pumps in the retail area. Cleaner and no hassle with the credit card, etc. I haul a 40 ft. trailer and can get in and out of most modern gas stations. Sometimes have to bully my way around. The biggest gotcha that I run into is steep curbs in and out. You can see the hitch scraps of trailers left in the concrete. Places like Cracker Barrel cater to RV's and are usually easy to get in and out of Just don't be in a hurry. Man, they are slow.Re: Black tank problemIs this a cable or pull rod type of valve? If it is a rod, I'm pretty sure the rod is just threaded in. Can you see this valve? Can you see that the rod is disconnected. Can you pull the handle all the way out. The reason I ask is because nothing comes out doesn't mean the valve isn't opening. Black tanks are notorious for this. If the valve doesn't close completely the liquids leak out leaving the solids behind. Get a King Flush and put that on the end of you sewer connection. With the black valve pulled, hookup a hose and turn the water on. You will be able to tell if the valve is open or not.Re: 2016 Ford 250, 350 Super DutyI went from a 2001 7.3 to a 2011 6.7. Never looked back. Oil, filter and fuel filter changes are about the only thing done in the last 5 yrs.
