Even at 39", it's less than 6" behind the rear axle. That has the same effect as a trailer with no more than 100lbs of tongue weight. OP will hardly be doing wheelies down the road, even with a 3000lb boat in tow. "OMG the COG is 1/4" behind the rear axle! It's a death trap!!!!" C'mon, be reasonable. Re: Smokey the Bear is spreading misinformation about safety chains! You know it. The forum's dead. May as well try to have a little fun. Re: Smokey the Bear is spreading misinformation about safety chains! Not simply crossed. As shown the chains were tightly wrapped and twisted together multiple times, possibly even tied in a knot. Re: Is my 2011 brake controller outdated? What about any of the comments you've received convinced that what you have is working fine? You yourself stated that you do not feel your brakes are working adequately or consistently. The consistently part is the main point of concern. If they are not working consistently, at some point they are not going to work at all... Have you noticed a change in the way the brakes work? If so, can you describe it? Re: Need 5th wheel hitch and information Short easy answer: Drive the truck to an RV dealership. Walk inside. Ask for the parts counter. Explain your situation to the person behind the counter. If they try to sell you something without even looking at your truck, walk out and head to the next RV dealership. I agree though. Not sure what your age or gender has to do with anything, and posting your phone number is not advisable. If you want answers, please participate in the discussion. This is not a service department where someone calls you back. Smokey the Bear is spreading misinformation about safety chains! Caught a commercial on youtube this morning, depicting a man driving backwards with a travel trailer. The area behind the trailer was on fire, and the area in front of the pickup was normal. Eventually the truck and trailer stop. Smokey the Bear steps up to the back of the pickup truck reaches down, unhooks one safety chain and proceeds to WRAP THE SAFETY CHAINS TOGETHER!!! Doesn't he know the chains can't cradle the trailer tongue, and their strength is compromised when they're all twisted up like that??? It's an outrage, I tell you! Then he says something to the effect of, "One spark from a dragging safety chain can cause a forest fire." Re: 1978 Fliteway Truck Camper Honestly, it's a 1970's truck camper, not the space shuttle... You're not going to find anything in the manual that can't be figured out using a little common sense, even if you could find one. The various appliances will have their own manuals, and won't be covered in the camper manual anyway. Maybe if you're having problems figuring something out, you could start a new thread in Tech Issues and ask for help? Re: Truck camper match You'll be up to speed when you no longer butcher CUMMINS. 🤣 Extra credit for butchering it in two unique ways, though. Just be aware that you will not be allowed to own a CUMMINS Dodge truck until you learn to spell and pronounce it correctly. The Ram boys will hunt you down and beat you savagely if you continue to include o's and g's. The truck really has a load capacity closer to 6000lbs or more. Rear axle rating should be around 10,000lbs, and empty weight on the rear axle should not be any more than about 3500lbs. What you're running up against is the GVWR, which is artificially low for DOT and tax purposes. Re: Is MB GLE450 sufficient for pulling Bullett Crossfire 2220ML Tow ratings tend to be "optimistic." While the machine can handle the load mechanically, manufacturers don't factor in driver comfort. If you are towing that load with the engine roaring away at 4000RPM the entire time, crawling up moderate hills at 45MPH, you're going to get sick of it REAL QUICK... That's another problem. The HP you quoted is "peak" meaning the engine's somewhere up at redline to make that HP. At lower RPMs it makes much less HP. Mechanically, it will work. You won't be in any danger hitting the road with it, especially if you use a quality sway control system. The question is, will you be so fatigued from driving and listening to the engine roar away, that you won't ever want to drive it again. Frankly I think you might want to invest in a high-end hitch system such as the Hensley or ProPride to give yourself the best experience. Re: First mileage test result. Near as I can tell nothing he did eliminated any emissions equipment. Headers and performance parts aren't illegal, as long as all the sensors and emissions equipment are still intact. Being "around 25 years old" is not good enough. Here in NY it has to be a 1999 or older this year to be exempt from emissions testing. Once it hits that magic 25 year mark, he could swap anything in that he wanted.
