They're overpriced flimsy pieces of junk.. Yep.Re: Pop upsPS: No... we didn't get anything new... still dragging around our old Viking. Truthfully, it has spoiled us... nothing we've looked at, even the NEW stuff, isn't as roomy or as panoramic as our PUPTENT!Re: Pop upsMaybe they just haven't found this forum yet...? I do know this: with the real estate market as overheated as it's been, a whole lot of folks have been taking advantage of the insane valuations in their homes, taking the money and "going mobile" in RVs (including pop-ups) until things cool down and they can afford to buy back in again. As a result, your everyday, average pop-up has gone from relatively affordable to crazy expensive, and that's IF you can find one! We actually had to get on a list with a local dealer and wait for a USED pop-up to come available! If past is prologue, though, the housing market will cool and maybe we'll see a spike in availability of lightly used RVs and pop-ups at much more reasonable prices as folks return to fixed housing. We can dream, can't we?Re: 87 to 85 octane-what altitude?Roger that, QC... in my experience, it's hard to beat a RAM, no matter the year, no matter the octane! Drive safe. - mRe: 87 to 85 octane-what altitude? QCMan wrote: Thanks for the info. I am presuming you mean 85 octane when you refer to low test. I should have been more specific... low-test here (in AZ) is 87. By the way, we're almost always hauling or pulling something, if not our Viking, then a ½-ton utility trailer for the business.Re: 87 to 85 octane-what altitude? We run the same engine as yours on low-test, we live at 6200', make weekly runs down to 1400' and back, no knocks, no pings, no problem.Re: Tent Trailer Set Up QuestionYou might want to consider an Aliner... it's hard-sided and as close to "push-button" operation as a pop-up tent trailer can get. We're seriously looking for one to replace our old Viking. https://aliner.com/aliner-campers/Re: Are CAnd then, sometimes dumb luck wins the day. The best PUP buy we ever made was at a yard sale... a literal one. My wife and one of her girlfriends were making the rounds and struck up a conversation with the yard-seller. Turned out he was "thinking" about selling his '97 Viking Legend 2480... was probably going to ask $3000. My wife looked it over, loved it, called me to ask if "we" were interested, then offered the guy the $1200 cash that she and her girlfriend actually had on them at the time. That was about 5 years ago. A few cosmetic repairs, a re-arched axle, new tires, and it's still our favorite getaway.Re: Are CI realize that not everyone has a Facebook account (and for good reason!), but I've had very good luck joining local Facebook groups. Most major cities, even smaller towns, typically have at least one or more "Yard Sale" type groups that are open to the public where members buy and sell just about anything. Since they are local, it's pretty easy to flush out the BSers, and scam artists don't last long in a close-knit group. Good luck!Re: Can I dye my canvas?Full disclosure: I haven't used it myself, and to be totally honest, I hadn't considered this application, either, until you posted your question! I ran across it a month or so back looking for a spray-on product that would tint the inside of two Lexan headlight covers I was going to purchase for an old sports car taking up space in my garage. Considered this product because one of the commenters on Amazon said that he had sprayed it on glass, then used an X-Acto knife to cut and peel away what he didn't want. Sounded good to me, but when I went back to buy the covers, they were gone! Still looking. Anyway, let me know how it works out... the canvas on our '97 Viking is starting to show its age, too.
