It is just a push pull rod.Remote pulls for tank drainsWe have an '05 Keystone Outback 5er. The 3 tanks all have a remote pull handle to open and close the tank valves. Last time we used the 5er, the black tank handle pulled out normally to drain the tank but would not push back in. The whole cable assembly felt like it was buckling and pushing sideways (if that makes any sense) instead of closing the valve. I pulled down some of the panel covering the belly and as I suspected the cable was pushing sideways. I could reach in and hold the cable while my wife pushed the handle and it would close the valve. This one takes about the same amount of pressure to operate as the other two, so I don't think the issue is the valve. Is there anyway to secure these cables so they won't bend? There doesn't appear to be anything to secure it to as it runs along the bottom of the black tank.Re: 5th wheel hitch clunking on stops and startsNo they don't too hard to duplicate at all. My concern was what to make them out of if I did make them. I have lots of different thickness aluminium but I think that would be too soft but if you used tin maybe it will be ok.5th wheel hitch clunking on stops and startsI posted earlier about our 5th wheel clunking just as we stopped and again when starting. Got some good advice here and found play between the hitch and rails as so many said it would be. I bought the Curt 5th wheel rail dampeners but could only get the two front ones in (light tap with a screwdriver handle on pins). The rear ones had less play and I could not get the pins installed with the shims in place. The noise is diminished considerably but I'd like to put shims in the rear also. I looked on line but all I can find are shims of the same thickness (.094" I believe). Does anyone make thinner shims or am I better off just making some?Re: Upcoming Trip to NewfoundlandWe went last week of June and first 2 weeks of July along the same route to St. Anthony's. Roads are decent but some of those hills are STEEP and long. You won't be driving fast because there is so much to see along the way. As mentioned earlier, watch out for moose, they are everywhere along the roads. I quit counting at 25 sightings. Might have been the time of year but we only saw a single moose once, the rest were always in groups of 2 or more. Gros Morne park is outstanding. If you like lobster, find a church social having a lobster fest. Lobster fresh off the boat, cooked while you wait. We were there 3 weeks and really only saw the northern peninsula. Currently making plans to go back for a month and explore the rest of the province.Re: 5th Wheel Makes Loud Clunking at Stops and StartsHad a chance to do some investigating yesterday, had the wife hold the trailer brakes on and try moving the truck forwards and reverse while I watched for movement. Did not really see anything in the pin to hitch area. Will be unhooking and checking for play in the hitch to rails. Was mentioned earlier about adjusting brake controller. Am I wanting a more aggressive trailer braking?Re: 5th Wheel Makes Loud Clunking at Stops and Starts donn0128 wrote: Loose hitch head. Mine has an adjustment bolt that takes the slop oit of the connection between jaws and pin. This would make sense but don't remember reading anything about doing this in my manual. Where would I find that bolt?Re: 5th Wheel Makes Loud Clunking at Stops and Starts corvettekent wrote: Is the slider locked in place? Or is it sliding when you start and stop? slider is locked in position. No, trailer is not sliding back and forth on slider.5th Wheel Makes Loud Clunking at Stops and StartsNew to towing a 5th wheel, in fact this was only the second time I've pulled our trailer ('05 Keystone 28FRLS). On the first trip (empty), which was from the dealer to our home I was quite impressed how smoothly it handled. This weekend we loaded up (fresh water tank too) and headed out. At every stop sign or traffic light just as we were about stopped it seemed the 5er moved forward with a loud clunk and backwards when I pulled away from the intersection. It was somewhat disturbing and I pulled into a parking lot to check that nothing was coming apart. Although I'm not sure what I should have been looking for everything seemed tight and not moving (when hitch was installed, paint dots were used to mark installation positions). The hitch is a Reese 30084 slider and vehicle specific brackets were used for mounting it. Only thing that changed between the two trips were the load in the trailer and the hitch height was raised 1" to get sufficient clearance between the box sides and trailer. Truck and trailer both were sitting level when hitched together. Anyone have any idea what I should look for or is this just something I will have to get used to?Re: Black or Grey Tank Dump Valves?????Want to say thanks for your responses. My computer has been down for a couple of days and now the RV dealer is closed for Easter weekend so I'll have to wait till Monday to check your suggestions out on my 5er. Dutchman-- I do know there is nothing like what your picture shows. The dump connection is near the front of the slide and the black tank pipe goes forward about 4' before is disappears into the enclosed belly and the grey water pipe goes rearward about the same distance before it also disappears into the belly. There are no holes in the belly for anything in that area.
