Hell's Backbone is also easy when there is no snow, but I think the Burr has more photogenic opps. Do both if you are there in the right season. The Wolverine loop off the Burr trail has some nice scenery along it and is also reasonably good dirt road.Re: Torklift FastGun Locks Tom_Anderson wrote: srschang wrote: Wow, glad I don't live where you guys live. Haven't locked my house, garage, or pole barn in 35 years. Really not worried about a couple hundred dollars of camper tie downs that nobody has a use for unless they have a camper. That's great if your camper never leaves your house. But most of us travel around with ours. This is what it is. I am not worried about them in my driveway, but out on the road somewhere. Sad to say, but some people will steal almost anything if you give them a chance. Better to minimize their chances.Re: Torklift FastGun LocksI read the reviews on the OEM locks (not particularly good) and opted for long shank Master locks. The Fastgun covers the gas door, so it is even a nice "locking gas cap". It takes 20 seconds to take the lock off and then the fastgun.Camper drawing on truck batteryI have a 2016 Chevy 3500 with a Northstar Laredo SC on the back. The camper wiring is plugged into the trailer hitch receptacle that is OEM on the truck. The camper has a battery cutoff switch. When the switch is off and I am not plugged into 110V and the truck is shut off, the camper is still getting power. I then unplugged the camper wiring from the trailer hitch receptacle and the camper no longer has power. So the camper is pulling power from the truck battery when the truck is not running. This does not seem normal to me. I thought the camper should only draw power from the truck battery (or alternator) when the truck is running. Does this seem right? Any thoughts or suggestions? HarleyRe: Anza Borrego TC RescueHas anyone ever tried the Truckclaws or knows anyone who has? I like the concept but I have not seen any user reviews other than the videos on the manufacturer's website.Re: Burr TrailAs long as it is dry, it is extremely easy. You might hit a little bit of washboard here and there, but no big deal. Dry, it is 2 wheel drive the whole way. Passenger cars do the trail all the time. I have not driven the lower section to Bullfrog rottidawg is referencing (which is not part of the Burr Trail).Re: The End All/Be All of Non-Slide Rigs - Or No?If you are planning a lot of off-road use, I would suggest paying close attention to camper width. I go off-road quite a bit in the deserts and some forest. My rig is 7 feet wide and I would not want to go ANY wider. Even at 7', I have stuff banging into the camper all the time. Width (and build quality) was a significant factor in my Northstar choice.Re: Camper Gets a New Truck - 2016 GMC 3500I have the same truck, but the diesel version. I picked it up end of August and could not be happier. Great truck! My camper is on mine full time. I filled out some CA DMV paperwork and had the truck reclassified as a passenger vehicle. It should save me a few bucks on registration fees and possible hassle out on the road.Re: 2015 Summer Journey, Crossing Canada part 7Excellent! Great to see these photos and very well done, too. I am looking forward to doing the route when I retire.Re: Tires - Preferences? d3500ram wrote: Good tires aren't cheap. I figure at least $250 a corner before any tax, disposal, road hazard, etc. The M55s were $300 before any of the other costs. The Hankook Dynapro ATM RF10s are $145.
