I checked in with the travel bureau in Labrador earlier this year and this is what they said about the roads: "The road from St. Barbe to Red Bay is paved but has rough sections/potholes. The road from Red Bay to approximately 85 km outside of Goose Bay is gravel. And then you are on pavement until you reach Goose Bay. From Goose Bay to Labrador City it is fully paved. From Labrador City to Baie Comeau the road has sections of gravel and pavement, there is approximately 160 km of gravel left on this section. " This will be our first trip up there and we are very much looking forward to it.Re: Full timing in a truck camper.Check out Truck Camper Magazine. They have several articles on full timing in a truck camper. Just type 'full timing' in the search box and they will pop up.Re: Need some help - Arctic Fox slide issueJust wanted to give folks an update. We've spoken to Northwoods Mfg. They believe it is a timing issue. Not sure exactly what that is in terms of a slide out, but the bottom line is that they have suggested we need to bring it to our dealer for service. We are going to try to bring it down to Bill Penney at Truck Camper Warehouse next week. I'll post another update once he's had the chance to look at it.Re: DRW vs SRW TrucksWe have a DRW and took our camper to Alaska last year. We traveled lots of dirt road, with no issues. We were limited more by the height of the camper than we were by the width.Need some help - Arctic Fox slide issueWe have a 2014 Arctic Fox 1150. We had an issue a couple of weeks ago when the slide make a loud noise just as it got all the way in and then it would not move at all. It turned out that the bolt connecting the moter to the slide mechanism had broken on both ends. We figured maybe we had gotten a bad bolt so we purchased a hardened bolt of the same size and replaced it. The slide worked just fine for our last trip but when I went to put it out this afternoon, it was not working once again. (No loud noise this time). We had only put out and few times since replacing the bolt, so now we are thinking that the original problem wasn't a bad bolt. Something must be sticking or not aligned properly and that is causing the stress that is breaking the bolt. Has anyone had a similar problem? Any ideas about what might be causing the problem? We are going to Nova Scotia in a couple of weeks and would love to have this resolved before we head out.Nova Scotia in July without reservations? We are planning a trip to Nova Scotia in July and prefer to travel without reservations. We have a truck camper and are fine with boondocking or camp sites with minimal services. We will be exploring the entire province and will be there for roughly two weeks. Will we have significant issues with finding places to stop if we do not have reservations? We prefer provincial and national parks, but are ok with commercial campgrounds as well. Any advice or input is appreciated.Re: Stealth slideouts (TC usable with the slideout IN)?Our AF1150 is quite useable with the slide in. It is a bit tight between the dinette and the bathroom, but it is workable. Plenty of room in the kitchen. We leave it in when stopping during the day, when stealth camping, or when the weather is very cold.Re: Passcard for Canada? We drove from Maine to Alaska last year via Canada. we crossed back and forth several times. in all cases we used our passport cards and had no issues. We did have our passports with us, just in case, but never needed them.Re: Coleman Fold N Go GrillWe have a Fold n' Go with the instastart. Initially the starter did not work, although we could use it by manually lighting it. we contacted Coleman and they we great about sending us a new part for the starter. It now works great. We purchased the griddle as well as the grill for it. It cooks quickly and uses very little propane. The only complaint I have is that it needs to be cleaned before being packed away and that can sometimes be a challenge when dry camping and conserving water (which would be an issue with any grill). The drip tray is always easy to clean, but the grill sometimes requires quite a bit if scrubbing. Oiling it before use definitely helps. Overall we love our little Coleman.Re: What would You Order? If you will usually be camping where you have electrical hookups and you use your microwave often at home, then it might make sense to get one. In our case, we often dry camp and don't have power to run a microwave. We ordered our AF without the microwave. We had them put a cabinet in place of the microwave. It gives us enough space to store a full set of pots and pans. We did not get the built in generator, but we did have a solar panel installed. We spent 3.5 months traveling and never felt like we needed to use a generator, although we do have a Honda eu2000 we can take along if we ever needed to. Note that we do not have an air conditioner either so the only things we need electricity for are the lights, charging our electronics, and the furnace fan (if it is running). Our solar and the charging we get when traveling is typically enough to handle our needs.
