I was 67 feet and driving below the speed limit. A weights and measures trooper got me in Wichita Falls Texas. Not good. Screwed up the start of a long planned vacation. He told me to correct the situation before moving. He did although let met drive to a nearby RV Park and determine how I would handle the delima. I would not do it as you will constantly be worrying every time you see a LEO. My two cents. Sorry for coming to the party late, but if I'm reading this correctly the LEO was causing you all of this grief over two feet?? Wow!Re: Rant about fulltimers Lantley wrote: johnhicks wrote: Well..maybe... Once again today while perusing an RV Park Review (you know where) I came upon the statement praising the park for not allowing fulltimers "with all their junk and noise." As I've been plotting our travels for the summer I've often read reviews denigrating the park for having fulltime/longtime campers, apparently as opposed to casual daily campers, and equating them to the Squatleys etc. Where do they get off??? I can see why you take offense to those comments. However there is a difference between full timers who are traveling through and full time residents. The review does not differentiate between the two. I prefer parks that don't allow full time residents as well. But more importantly I prefer parks that mandate clea/cleared sites without a lot of stuff lying around and no permanent structures I'd say that as a traveler I prefer to be at parks where folks are moving in and out. It feels like we have more in common and seem more inspired to visit, chat, and share ideas and experiences. I consider it a necessary evil to stay at parks where there are, what appears to be, full time residents. For the most part, they seem to want their privacy and keep to themselves which just isn't as fun when traveling. I totally get the socio-economic piece as well. They aren't living their to keep me entertained.Re: Full Time, Selling Everything DianneOK wrote: We did..."everything wrong" We both retired early (54). We had never RVed except for a 2 week stint in a rented trailer. Sold the farm and everything we owned. Changed everything to SD. Had no idea where we were going. Went from a big home, land and jobs where maybe saw each other for a few hours each day to 300sf/24 hours a day. It all clicked on day one. Nine years passed so quickly. We don't regret one minute. Everyone is different.... So, I don't see what did you do wrong. We are thinking about a similar approach, but more info on your mistakes would be useful.Re: Full Time, Selling Everything Old-Biscuit wrote: We KNEW we would NOT be returning to same area WHEN it was time to come off the road. (Baldy Mesa....between Victorville/Phelan off 395) We KNEW we would NOT want to deal with renting out house while we were on the road.......didn't what that concern We KNEW we didn't want to pay storage fees while on the road.....$$ spent for stuff not being used. We KNEW we would some day stop FT travel so we had an 'Exit Plan' We bought truck/5th wheel.....loaded things we KNEW we needed, things we THOUGHT we needed and things we WANTED to keep Told family then friends....come get what you want Then had an Estate Sale and sold everything left. Sold House and LEFT for a new adventure/lifestyle 7 wonderful/awesome yrs we got to travel all over the USA using secondary/back roads----seeing/experiencing this vagabond lifestyle. Staying/traveling when/where we wanted to go. Then life threw a curve ball.....so when are now back in a S&B (with FHU next to house) enjoying a different phase in our life (took a bit of 'transitioning' to say the least but it's all good!) Everyone has to make decisions based on what is best for THEM Even though we are no longer on the road we wouldn't change a thing......it was a fantastic 7 years that we got to do/enjoy/experience. Good luck.......and best wishes. This is the model that my wife and I will probably implement when we retire in a few years. I like the idea of cutting ties with where we've been living for 30 years and roaming the planet for a half a dozen years or so. Being unencumbered from a home and dealing with a rental is a liberating thought. Thanks for putting this so succinctly Old-Biscuit.Re: Ever get bored?Great post with lots of insight for the lurker (like me). I really enjoy reading the various sides of the coin on this topic. Even though we're still 6 years out from full retirement, I really enjoy reading various opinions on the topic of full-timing. Seems pretty logical that it's NOT for everyone. We're still on the fence. We'll keep up the RV travels and continue looking in from the outside for awhile. :)Re: Cross Country Road Trip justaboutretired wrote: Hello everyone, Thought I would write to those who gave the wife and I all the great advice for our trip. We took 8 weeks to travel cross country. I know a lot of responders suggested that we take the northern route first and due the southern route on the way home. In looking back I am kind of glad we didn't. We probably would have gotten caught up in all the flooding in the south on the way home. Anyway we had a great time crossing this great country we live in. We visited 5 National parks, 2 National monuments, Sedona, Az, Hoover Dam, Los Angeles, Santa Monica, feet in the Pacific Ocean, Las Vegas, Lambeau Field, Mall of America, Macinac Island, Saulte Ste Marie and scores of the most friendly people we have ever met. Total trip was 10,300 miles on 935 Gallons of fuel and 3 oil changes and one flat tire in the campground.. Can't wait to do it again but the next time we Will stay north and head to Washington and Oregon. Yellowstone was the issue with getting full hookup so we ended up stayin in Idaho an commuting to the west enterance. We will know better the next time! Again thanks for all your advice and suggestions. We really had a good time. Bill Great follow-up.... weather is always a wild card. I agreed with what other posters that had written/suggested about sequencing North first, but sometimes weather can be a tricky variable.Re: Would selling this trailer be irresponsible? fj12ryder wrote: You have a 160 hp Suzuki GSXR 1000 motorcycle, easily capable of sub 9 second quarter miles, and a top speed in excess of 180 mph, easily do nearly 100 mph in first gear. Kid stops by carrying his helmet and wearing flip-flops, shorts, and no shirt...and a fistful of cash. He's never owned a motorcycle and got his license on a friend's borrowed dirt bike, but he's 18 and considered an adult. Do you sell it to him, no questions asked, or do you consider it unwise to sell something to someone that clearly is going to get hurt, and probably very badly? I had a buddy that worked at a motorcycle dealership. He faced this dilemma at least monthly (if not more often). In his motorcycle selling career, he sold bikes to kids that would eventually die or be seriously injured.... it was tough. But, he did recommend safety courses etc. Some states require them for under 18. I buy and sell a lot of stuff. I think we have a moral obligation to make recommendations and then let the buyer make an informed decision.Re: Is there any hope for changing this floor plan? netaq wrote: This one has a mid entry door and a better shower. I don't recall your budget or truck but there's an RV for everyone. I've seen this unit (and similar).... Really nice floor plan!
