Yes I feel very privileged to have the IC that I have, saved me a lot of heartache. :DRe: "Totaled yet beautiful." Insurance company's responseWell I forgot to subscribe to my own post....grrrrr. My wonderful insurance is Ohio Mutual Insurance. I am so very very greatful to them. And I do hope that they can do something to the frame manufacturers that produce faulty equipment that can cause death or at least serious injury. I could not believe ALL of the folks that this has affected. It is a shame.Re: I need advice on my totalled yet still beautiful baby.It did very little damage...2 tiny dents in the nose rail. But who knows. There wasn't any water intrusion. And being stored for 3 years, in a barn would have made that thing smell like a musty ole basement. It didn't. But the insurance co made their decision. That is why a new thread was started.Re: I need advice on my totalled yet still beautiful baby.Started diff thread, the insurance co and I have spoken."Totaled yet beautiful." Insurance company's responseFor all of you that followed the old post. I spoke with the insurance co today. They gave me full retail value of my camper, without one word from me. They are a good company and are very supportive. But we did have a discussion re: Lippert pin box failures. In the end I hope they go after them with both barrels as she indicated may happen. NO ONE should have to worry about things like this EVER. I mean yes, not everything stays new forever, but this type of failure can and more than likely has, ended in death or serious injury. Because it is hidden. And not everyone knows what to look for. I didn't until recently. I simply stated to her, "you insure these things, and most folks do not know it is happening until it's too late....by no fault of their own. It just does and there is NO way to check when everything is sealed up." That rang loudly in her ear. She even began researching it while we were talking. And I heard the repeated" OMG, they know about it and have done nothing." I am so very thankful to have a great insurance co that stands behind their customers. And even better, try to fix something that could be catastrophic to their customers and far beyond. In the end it wasn't water intrusion, it was more than likely the box or frame causing the issues, which caused the sealed seems to fail, which caused the water to get in and rapidly deteriorate the rv. And this was the jist of the report from the shop. So no amout of attention to detail would have prevented this. No sticking it here or there, covering with this or that, after the fact. My next camper should that happen, will be older than me. I want something that was built when people cared, when things were made to MY specs. Thank you for all the advice you all gave me. It really did steer me where I needed to be.Re: I need advice on my totalled yet still beautiful baby.Upon your advice and suggestions It does appear the frame maybe the cause. I really want to investigate and photo it, but most of the frame is sealed behind walls. However, all of the damage and situations ring parallel to others with pin box or frame issues. So I believe this post should be closed. I may start a new one when the insurance co and I speak, as some of you have struggled, probably til the point you pull your hair out, with me thru all of this. And I can tell some were frustrated with me, and I am sorry, but I thought when I bought her that strict care and cleAning would be just what she needed to remain for a long adventurous life. Top notch attention to detail, unwavering maintence of seams with some expensive caulk. But no, I couldn't forsee this, ever. And I do not, nor have I ever claimed to know it all, especially about the inner workings of an RV. Now human minds and bodies, yes. That is why a few of you had to be blocked, didn't want to, but no one likes negative assumptions or accusations. Just friendly advice is appreciated. And maybe it wasn't outright, but pay attention to the way you present yourself. This place, this forum should be to support and inquire and to positively educate others. Life is too short to be grumpy or judgemental.....IMHO. So the waiting begins. Thank you all again for your education of me, thats quite a job. HAHARe: I need advice on my totalled yet still beautiful baby.Dodge guy- man, I am so thankful to all of you. I l have learned so much. You know, I would have never thought that something like a "pin box" could do this. But you can make sure that I will talk to the ins co. Now, it makes perfect sense! Why the failures we're rather sudden after being in storage....duh. The big hunka metal used to pull it may be coming apart...therefor causing the separation, thats why the damage was smallish. Then the Einstein's said to just "leave it there, don't worry about it, we'll take care of it." And THEN the water damage......OMGosh. Yes you have all just seen the lightbulb go off!!!!!!!! And yes, I do have a documented brain injury so don't go there.Re: I need advice on my totalled yet still beautiful baby. Thanks JJBIRISH.Re: I need advice on my totalled yet still beautiful baby.Thank you Westend. To put this thing back in the barn, well it would be a bad thing, because of how the barn is made and positioned. We fear it is going to be too much stress if it is structural. I do not want anything happening to ANYONE or to their property...ie the truck pulling it. What do you think the insurance would do if that would happen? After we were told not to? Oh boy, my butt wiuld be in a REAL sling then. BirdFreak- I had to stop beating my head against a wall a little while ago. Kinda like when you tell ur kids NOT to do something and they keep it up?!?! Exasperating. But I will have nothing new to post until the insurance and I speak. So therefore it has been recommended to start a diff post with that. Whatever it may be. Thank you all for your advice, and most of all your time.Re: I need advice on my totalled yet still beautiful baby. Now I'm itching to pull it apart! Upon pushing lightly, the cheap luann on the inside of the nose, right at the front corner is soft enough to go thru. And yes there is water damage to the wall and floor, and the little side table is coming apart. As far as fixing, the good fella at the shop with whom I trust to no end, said "do NOT do that." He stated because of the sudden extreme rate of deterioration. We do not want to move this thing anymore. It is not worth someones health or life.
